Quite a bit of snow forecast over the weekend for the French Alps.

Right down to c 1300/1400 m

Looking forward to webcams on Saturday morning.

A light dusting at resort level in Tignes at the moment.
Freeze/thaw level dropping dramatically during the day.
Should be some lovely white mountains on webcams tomorrow morning.

It was snowing in Geneva today too and it's absolutely Baltic outside. Freezing level'has dropped to 400m and is expected to go further down till 250m by tomorrow night. Brrr... I can imagine what it's like in the mountains.

Friday morning webcam check ....
Another few inches of snow in Tignes overnight - very nice.
They have the piste machines out and working on the Double M down from the Grande Motte which is interesting. Lots of people wandering around as well - wish I knew what they were doing.

Bits of snow forecast for the next week but a spike in temperatures over the weekend which is going to mean rain quite high up for a time (2500m).

The glacier is closed for some reason so I guess people are going up the Double M for a little ski. Bit of a hike though, unless they're all using that lonely chair hanging on its own.

New here and looking for info.Looking to fly to memmingen in early Feb.Stayed previously in hall in Tyrol and skiied on patcherkofel which we really enjoyed. Where is closer to airport in nice resort with decent ski/snowboard with evening entertainment without the transfers to skiing every day.Thanks in advance

A few inches of snow all over the Tarentaise overnight but quite warm today with a freeze/thaw level just under 2000m - so rain in lower resort.

But ....

Then a good ten days of really cold weather with quite a bit more snow forecast right down to the valleys.

Looking good for an early season start!!

No need to panic though as we had one of the best snow weeks ever in VDI in mid Jan this year, only around 8 weeks after the first photo

Does mean that this year's strong looking base should give us all a great season

Nice picture. This year it started couple weekes earlier. And indeed last year slopes looked like that until December 10 when it started snowing, but then some resorts had to close because of too much snow. Still means nothing for the season. two years ago that much snow fell by the end of October and this is what we were skiing on until end of season.

Yeah, snow is coming. About 1 meter is expected this week which should provide a good base. As of Saturday I saw grass sticking out in the middle of the piste and off-piste was full of rocks, literally nothing to ski on, but snow that fell Sunday and yesterday started to fix it. had great skiing yesterday despite lack of visibility, but lack of visibility = fewer people so if snow is good I take it anytime over a bluebird day:)

Me too. I was so excited all day today. I wanted to get on the next train out there (not a flight, they've all gone a bit pear shaped becuase of the snow apparently)

Dids I'm in the same boat this year, unfortunately I popped the question last summer and am now in saving mode for the big event next year. One of the first things to go was the winter holiday :(

I do feel very sorry for you and Dids. Couldn't you just have a small wedding? I think my wedding cost a total of about GBP300 - although it was a long time ago!

So would I.....we always have, all through our kids childhood.

This year we are going on holiday to celebrate a significant birthday of most of us ( not me i have a few years to wait 8) and the issue is just having enough holiday leave left.

To be fair my wife is just as likely as I, if not more so, to be up and out for first lift - she's fitter than me so can ski all day and probably even drinks more than me these days as I'm getting old!

Both (ahem) my weddings were done pretty cheaply, number 2 was wedding of the year at a register office and then the pub. Everyone that came gave us Euros and we had a tremendous time spending it on our two week honeymoon in Livignio.

I skied 6 days this season and 5 of them were powder days. It is insane. Snow is great. We skied thigh-deep powder this weekend and our tracks were filling up as the day progressed.

I see that Mr Wickham has taken over as The Snow God.La Clusaz has now topped the 300 mark ranking top of the deepest snow resorts in France and 9th on the worlds deepest snow. With still more snow to come.
