18th July Alpe D'Huez

The 2013 Tour De France route has been announced.
My eye was immediately drawn to the Gap to Alpe D'Huez stage on 18th July.
They nearly popped out when I read that they have to climb the mountain twice! That's just cruel!
I love watching Alpine stages, especially places I know from visiting them in the wintertime.
Any other fans out there?
With them coming up the climb twice this could be the year to go out there to watch. It would be something ticked off my bucket list.

When they reach the top the first time they'll still have 50km to go!

Re:18th July Alpe D'Huez

I am a fan too, big hilly tour next year

Mont Ventoux on Bastille Day (that will ensure massive crowds :) ), the double climb at Alpe D'Huez and one for Wickers, a finish at LGB

And finally a night finish on the Champs. It will be interesting to see how Cav gets round the hills and if his new team will be in a position to lead him out on the Champs, hopefully wearing the Green Jersey.

Interestingly, I see Bradley has already stated he is going to put most of his efforts into the Giro next year, as well as the Paris Roubaix.

Yep, Froome will be team leader for the Tour with Brad in a supporting role.
As Sky said earlier in the year, if the route suited Froome he would be leading.

And I think this is all credit to the new generation of cyclists. It would never have happened even a few years ago, where the supposed team captain would support other members if it was better for the team. I still think the sight of Wiggo in the Yellow Jersey leading out Cav on the Champs was truly stirring.

If Froome is on form, I think Contador is going to need plenty of steak on this tour

Re:18th July Alpe D'Huez

This new generation of cyclists produce 20% less power than the last a few years ago...
They are no longer super human, or perhaps that's incorrect they now are super human because they're doing it without needles and pills. Well most of them are... Pity the Spainish authorities are so far behind the game.

Re:18th July Alpe D'Huez

I love cycling and am a mountain biker and road cyclist but....
The guy who wins is the guy with the best doctor/scientist/pharmacist.
Saying that I love watching the tour when there is a mountain stage where I have skiied and having driven up to Alpe d'Huez a few times I can only imagine what it is like to cycle up it. Twice!
........... I was exhausted from the bus journey up the hill to ADH

Cannot imagine how difficult it would be to cycle up it once never mind twice

Those guys are extraordinary athletes (or at least those that are clean are  )

Re:18th July Alpe D'Huez

Looking forward to it. The Alpe will be absolutely rammed, and the Dutch fans will be even more hammered than they usually are on Dutch corner.

So to fly to Geneva for the Annecy & LGB stages, head to Paris for the finale, or end up staying at home and watching on the box?

Climbing the Alpe twice in rapid succession will blow the field to pieces.

Be great to have Froome in yellow and Cav in green in Paris, and hopefully Steak Boy and Valverde will have fallen over large cliffs by then (or been banned again!)

One day the 3 weeks will be booked off, the camper van hired, the bike attached to the back, and away we go round France.........
