Easter short break

I thought I'd throw this open to the forum for ideas.
Theres a group of possibly 8 of us talking about taking 2 cars to the alps for a weekend over easter for Stewart Dowling's stag do and I was wondering what suggestions for resorts easy to get to together with possible accommodation in these resorts you could come up with?

My immediate thoughts were Serre Che and Alpe d'Huez as both have the height for late March/early April and are simple drives. Other places I have considered are Montgenevre and Claviere, and Flaine.

Stewart came up with Valloire.....?

We will be looking for cheap and cheerful accommodation, apartments kind of thing. Doesnt have to be 1 for all of us, 2 would do, as long as we arent sharing double beds ;-)

Thanks in advance

Re:Easter short break

I am as most people know a great fan of Easter skiing and also of Flaine (ski area)
But I have never stayed in Flaine and I will say that if it's school holidays it will be over run with families and the lift queues will be horrendous., especially for the DMC.

Claviere and Montgenevre could be iffy for snow.
We went in 2nd week of March and it was very slushy on lower slopes.....but then, you might be lucky.
Re:Easter short break

Done lots of Easter trips to Chamonix. Probably the easiest drive from the Channel ports, definitely got the height -) , bars galore, 1000's of apartments to rent, huge choice of slopes facing in all directions.

Re:Easter short break

 Chamonix is good call.
We were there last Easter, Les Houches, (whole Chamonix area nt my cup of tea, but that's because we had a large group with teens and it was too spread out, but that's another story).
Tons of snow
Breathtaking views.
Lively town

And...for school holidays we didn't see many queues or kids and that has to be a consideration.
Re:Easter short break

Don't forget that ADH is south facing so despite its altitude advantage it still may suffer late in the season.
Of the ones you suggested Flaine would be the logical choice. Closer and north facing.

Firstly Valloire has not a great snow record peak season let alone late season, I'll have a search around and try and find something suitable for a late ski ..... might be tomorrow now.

Re:Easter short break

As it's an early easter, it's still low season so good on prices and the French won't be on holiday until later.

March 2012 there was (freak) a heatwave which didn't do much for the snow anywhere.

Re:Easter short break

Obviously no one has come up with anything that appeals yet as you've gone unusually quiet......

Tip for a short break - don't go somewhere massive, you'll end up frustrated that you've barely used the extent of the lft pass, just as you get your bearings it'll be time to go home.

If you tried Chamonix you could get Le Cham pass which would probably give you enough for your few days.

Easter risky in lots of places but apart from the obvious hordes of British school kids it isn't the worst tme to go next year as end March.
Re:Easter short break

Thanks. The short break has been binned. 2 reasons: 1 is its a month before my trip to America so I really cant afford anything and 2 the costs for 3 days skiing equated to what I could find a decent weeks half board for.
