Item 10 : Polar Fleece Jacket Quiz

This last item is aimed at the "more mature" skier who has lived skiing beyond the slopes.
Once you accept skiing as a life style, you discover that skiing has ties to many unusual people and contexts.

Ernest Hemingway wrote many well know novels. He wrote three books in which skiing was integrated to his message.

List the three books which refer to skiing.

That is the final item for this quiz. I will wait one week and then score all answers. Persons who participated in the quiz will get all the correct answers.

I hope this quiz has made your summer just a little shorter.

Pavel, many thanks for doing this quiz.

I may not have got them correct, but I have enjoyed trying to find the correct answers, and have certainly learnt many things I probably would never have known about skiing otherwise.

I wish to echo the "honorable" FQ's ((or is that "questionable" FQ's)) ...... nope .... it's honorable FQ's comment of thanks!! Win lose or draw I've learned about some new aspects of skiing equipment and its history. Therefore it is win - win for me. I still have a week to free myself from the sticky honey but I expect the answer to # 2 will arrive before I become free :( :( .

Far Queue,

I have a surprise for you. For participants like you there are some small ski related items which I get from ski/board companies.
Via PM send where I can send you these items.

For example last year one boot company had some multi-purpose knives (like the famous Swiss penknife ) to give out. I had 5 units given to me. Passed them on to other deserving skiers.

Excellent suggestion.

In the spirit of "collaboration",,,,,,,, allow persons who got correct answers on quiz share their answers. It will promote positive discussion on how they got answer, how they used Goggle effectively and also allow late entries to also search for correct answer.

Let me begin discussion for correct answers by giving one of the answers.

Pavelski, once your quiz is finished, just post the questions you set and then list the correct answers. No discussion, no methodology, just facts. This is about skiing, not on how to use various search engines on the web.

No problem Bandit.

I did not want to "focus" on search engines or how to find information.

Want "objective " information there are lots of sites to visit.

My goal was to have fun. To get persons to share interesting "information " they found and to also learn a little about skiing.

I noticed that you did not send in your "findings" during quiz, so let me first send to all participants the correct answers and then we will post on general chat site.

They do deserve some early information since they did try to get answers.

Now if you want to get an early start Bandit, get Fry's book on the history of skiing. 80% of items are from his book.

I hope you had fun at least thinking about the items.

But AllyG, it is in the search or the quest for knowledge through which you would find the answers .... and have some fun learning some interesting ski facts.

Then more fun comes when we learn the correct answers and find how close our first thoughts were to these answers.

And on top of that ... even more fun comes when we end up slapping our foreheads, realizing how clear the questions were --- and we missed the point ! Question # 2 : CMA 10071982, comes to mind for me.

Yes fun to be had in skiing even when not on the snow !

Mike, maybe I am just too lazy to do the work to find the answers :oops:

I didn't mind doing Admin's quiz on avalanches because I either knew or guessed all the answers, so no research was required!

However, in spite of myself I have learned something as I now know that Hemingway skied (otherwise I don't suppose he'd have written about ski-ing) :D

So thanks Pavel for teaching me that much!

I think we all know that you cannot use "lazy" as an excuse. :D

I've been following all the work you've done for the J2Ski holiday ski trips. Nothing lazy about all that effort !! You are to be more than congratulated on this fine selfless work. If I was able, Mrs Mike and I would be joining you on these trips from our side of the pond. You are going to have a blast !!!

Well, I admit I really enjoy research and often spend hours on it ... so maybe it's the competitive element of quizzes that I don't like? I know I had to take 5 exams recently, and it was the first time for nearly 30 years that I've taken an exam and I found it incredibly stressful. I was really worried I'd end up being the dunce of the class!

However, I do feel rather guilty at not taking part, after Pavel went to all the trouble of designing the quizz and marking the results.

Can't remember the answers being published for the last Quiz run by Pavelski. Though it's quite a long time ago now.
