Who will get the 2014 Winter Olympic Bid???

I have been having a look at what is on offer and can't decide!

The choices are;
PyeongChang, South Korea
Salzburg, Austria
Sochi, Russia

It would be great to have the Winter olympics in Europe after only 8 years away! Especially as my home town and surrounding towns are hosting events.

Got a feeling that South Korea will get it though - just to politicaly keep them happy and their moral nice and high!!

Tough call... you can see South Korea being the "up and coming" choice, Salzburg the vote of the establishment and Russia getting a huge amount of "political" support...

It's going to be down to elimination and the bidders are likely to "lose" the vote through a lack of infrastructure and/or credible planning I guess.

Yeah Salt Lake City's bid should be coming along well seeing as they hosted them in 2002. I also heard Chamonix might get it?

Still hope its Salzburg though.

PyeongChang doesn't really have a chance.. probably either Salzburg or SLC at my best guess.

I think PyeongChang has more of a chance than Sochi. Sochi doesnt even have any facilities so they would be mad to pick them.

Its gotta be Salzburg!

Nah, Holland will never get the Winter Olympics, they don't even have any hills.

Holland have some massive snowdomes though, could probably host the downhill in one? Just a thought.

But they arent even in the title race though RossF, so where did you get that idea from?

where are you getting your rumours from? im pretty sure its only salzburg, salt lake city and south korea in it.

I think they decide on the 9/09/09 at 9pm on Nine News in Australia with coverage shown via internet streaming in 9 other countries around the globe, including Iceland

Ah ok, ages yet then. Maybe they are trying to make it like the summer olympics? that started on 08/08/08 so maybe they want the winter olympics to be decided on 09/09/09. Just a thought. It might start on 14/14/14.

At 1400 hours... there is a shout, can anyone back up this idea? Or suggest it to the Salzburg organisers, could be the deciding factor for them to steal it from under Scotlands nose.

Didnt realise Scotland were in it?! Thats news to me. Imagine having the winter olympics in the UK just after having had the summer ones in 2012? That would be awesome.

Anyways back on topic, who does everyone want to win it? I was thinking Salzburg but having seen Scotland have bidded, im supporting them.

I'd like to see Russia get it, skiing will be moving east over the next thirty years. It will give them a reason to develop new facilities and showcase what they have to offer.

On the other hand Ipswich may get it, they'll have the biggest snowdome in Europe by then!

KevinC I think the moon will definitely be in with a shout in 2018, they don't have the infrastructure there yet for the downhill and the big air would be, well, err big.

That does sound logical. However for 2018 I'm hoping it's Salzburg!
