Ok ok I know its still this season on the slopes, but I'm already looking to next season to make plans.

Just wondering if anyone has got any definite places they intend to book, or resorts on their wish list for next season (and I don't want to hear anything from the usual suspects from the N Gang :twisted: )

For me, I have a wishlist of resorts. However, I am going to review this now as I have changed my criteria to include the following:

Next or within 2 minutes walk of ski lift

No queues at lifts

Quiet slopes

Good choice of on piste cafes/restaurants

I have got the following lined up as options, which also fit my other criteria in terms of extent, snow history, distance from airport etc:

Cervinia
Bad Gastein
Monterosa
Solden
Crans Montana
Davos

So whats everyone else got in mind?

Not having been this year, any-where would be good for me. Summer hols sorted so looking for ideas for Jan 2013. Thinking Norway but would also love to experience Russia. Austria used to be great for us airport 2miles up the road, 90mins flight and we were there. Sadly no flights any-more from Bournemouth.

Might drive out and stop 2 weeks instead of the usual snatched week and thinking of the PDS area lots of different places to try

Well, we're 90% sure that we will return to Val d'Isere (with the kids and probably over New Year...gulp, better get the credit card prepped).

We were in Val d'Isere 7/1 to 14/1 this year. Very impressed. No queues. Good mountain food. Great apres ski. Brilliant lift system and link to Tignes.

We will then go away sans children, probably 1st week of Feb. Have been eyeing up:

Cervinia/Zermatt
Verbier
Courchevel
Val Thorens

I"ve booked a family holiday to Club Med Tignes for next year - 31st March for a week. 30 in our group somehow... !!! Good price at the moment for a few Club Med holidays as they offer early bird discount... it's the only way we afford to go!

Also booking my girlie holiday - back to La Tania... got prices and some commitment but not all yet... nearly there with that one.

I always book a year in advance if I can - it really keeps the prices down :)

We're going to be heading over to Canada next year hopefully around the end of March into April (Vancouver Area) so plan is to sample Whistler as well a few local hills and Mt Washington on Vancouver Island.

Hopefully another group trip in there but don't know where.

28 of us booked for Obergurgl, 31st March 2013. We have to book this early to get a chalet to ourselves, our first choice of dates was not an option because two people had already booked in :evil:

I'm pretty sure I can wangle and early season trip too :twisted:

Rose - plenty of resorts in easy reach of Geneva - Easyjet from BOH to GVA is a doddle.

Well, we haven't been yet. We're risking spring snow and going 31st March.
Next seasoon could possibly be much easier, both kids will have left school. One at Uni, one at 6th form and we won't be tied to dreaded school hols (we will go without them I think).

Always fancied Arabba, or Cervinia.....
We've been to France for yesrs, so deffo fancy somewhere else.
Finances will not run to America and I like Europe anyeay.

After the last few years in French resorts I'm thinking of a trip out east. I would love to ski Japan but the resorts seem a little on the small side. Plus it would be one hell of a pricy holiday.

I've just been offered a fantastic deal for 2 adults/2 kids for La Plagne 2013...except it is a "book within the next 3 weeks".

Having got off the plane 24hrs ago from 3 Valleys should I? Really?

Hi Bedrockbarney, we're considering Val d'Isere for next year - honestly, how pricey is it? What would you say were typical costs for maybe a large beer, pizza, pasta dish, bottle of wine. Not bothered about fancy pants restaurants, quite happy with low key. I think we're decided on Vd'I but would just like to dot the i's, etc.

We are also looking into the possibility of Garmisch. The year I did not ski as I was recovering from Pleurisy and had broken ribs, went there for the day. Hubby had a few slides and I went up on the funicular. It was really a good place.

Anywhere with snow, I wont even think about it until August at the earliest.

Ally please dont feel sorry for me, it was by choice as I want a longer Summer holiday. But at the same time I did miss it. Now back to Tony's thread, thats enough wibble from me. )

Glass of beer was 5 euros (I think it was a half litre glass = 0.9 pints). We tended to head for the Blue Note Bar for apres ski.

We had a couple of meals out but s/c the rest of the week. Bar Jacques was pretty decent and nicely tucked down a side street. Pizza was about 12 euros from memory. Had a half bottle of Bordeaux one night which was 14 euros :shock: Very nice though. We had no change out of 50 euros for a shared starter, two main dishes, a bottle of wine and two espressos. The big showoff restaurant prices were much higher. Pizza from a takeaway was cheaper but not exactly living it up! We did see one youth eating a whole roast chicken outside of the supermarket which was very amusing.

I thought it was a great resort. Not too busy as well but we were there low season.

Im so annoyed as i replied to this thread earlier but it doesn't seem to be here!!!
GRRRRRR.

Anyhow.

I too want to ski Cervinia, mainly because i want to ski Zermatt and its the cheaper option. But i have heard that the link is often closed due to the weather.

I have planned two trips so far, one at new year and one for the 2nd week in Feb although destinations are unknown at the moment.
I suspect one of them will be to PDS, maybe Avoriaz (hides from Ian) and the other maybe Paradiski again as i have unfinished business there.
I would like a third trip which too and I'm just open minded on that as i intend to ditch the wife and daughter for that one.

Pila has far more interesting terrain than Cervinia alone. Courmayeur too, actually.

Hoping for a couple of trips next year including a couple of weeks training round Switzerland and a hop across the pond.

looking to book either Lech/Zurs or Verbier for January 2013 and group ski at Sauze d'Oulx in February. Would like a third trip however, off to Los Angeles this summer and this will dent the finances somewhat :evil:

I think the 2013 one started out as what people thought about price- DIY V catered etc and Tonys is resorts we are thinking about - but as usual ...things change I think I posted on the wrong one too !! :roll:

Why? I've skied La Plagne twice before and I remember nice wide gentle blues...which is what the kids & OH need. It's also big enough that I can disappear in the mornings while they're all in ski school.

We skied La Plagne and Les Arcs in early March 2011. I enjoyed the week a lot but thought that Les Arcs was better linked up than La Plagne. We encountered some pretty bad queues in La Plagne - 20 to 30 minutes at times. For me that is something that really spoils the skiing experience.

Cheers bedrockbarney, it's what I expected, was in L2A again in january, seems to be simialr kind of prices for many things. I'm tempted by the "Les Sorbier" hotel (think that's its name!) but it's B&B only, hence my question about eating out. Not too bothered about drinks prices as can't t\ke it at altitude, half a bottle of wine with dinner and I'm done!

Booked Cervinia for 13th January which is always a quiet week on the slopes. Took up Club Med early booking offer. Looking forward to skiing somewhere that isn't France.

As for a wish list I keep saying I want to go to St Anton so may try and plan a long weekend without children a bit later on in the season.

I would like to venture outside France in 2013, suppose it depends on what I can get for GBP800 - GBP1,000 all in.

You are soooooo lucky you don't have to pay for a family. for 800 a trip i would be going 5 times a year.

Just going slightly off topic for 2 minutes:

I was thinking about the price of ski holidays the other day. At one time they were the holiday for the well off (probably back in late 80/early 90). They then became more affordable. However I think they are in danger of approaching that, "holiday for the well off." Especially for those with a family.

I was thinking about the price of ski holidays the other day. At one time they were the holiday for the well off (probably back in late 80/early 90). They then became more affordable. However I think they are in danger of approaching that, "holiday for the well off." Especially for those with a family.

Well i tell them they are lucky!

ADH cost me about 3k at xmas and Flaine set me back about 2.3k.....thats all in with spends.
Yes it is a very expensive holiday.

I wouldn't go Club Med to Cervinia though, long way from the slopes and you have to be bussed to the lift so hit it at peak time. I did Club Med in St Moritz as it was the only affordable way to visit that resort but I can find lots of deals to Cervinia for a lot less than CM prices.

Looks a cracking ski area too.

Italy is quite different all round to France.
