Re:Single trip Ski / Sports Insurance

How about buying one together with your ski pass? There is usually an option to do it and it provides a good coverage including for search and rescue.

Re:Single trip Ski / Sports Insurance

but the one with your ski pass (certainly in France) won't cover full ongoing medical expenses and repatriation if needed.

The Carre Neige (in France for example) is excellent for slope side cover and to the medical centre etc but then (As far as I am aware - happy to be corrected on this) your usual medical agreement has to come in which could be an EHIC, but still will leave you unable to get home with any help if this is needed - this would include changing flights etc.

Re:Single trip Ski / Sports Insurance

Oh and - just look on this page - there is nearly always an ad for insurance, alternatively go to a price comparison website - but do check you are buying the right cover !! Off-piste for example is often exluded.

Re:Single trip Ski / Sports Insurance

I use price comparison websites, but check the cover for each policy carefully, especially for things like loss of hired equipment. Given that a set of skis could cost GBP500 or more you want to make sure if they get stolen there is enough cover there. I usually end up buying a mid-price policy rather than the cheapest one.

Re:Single trip Ski / Sports Insurance

Then a combination of Carre Neige and some sort of travel insurance. I knew someone who only had travel insurance but had to be rescued by heli and she received a bill for 10 thousand Swiss. She and her friend made the wrong turn off-piste and realised they were getting seriously cliffed out, started climbing back but it was getting dark so they had no choice but to call the rescue.

Re:Single trip Ski / Sports Insurance

I've been looking recently and found Sainsburys do cover with winter sports and offer 25% off (I think) if you have a nectar card, reasonable price outcome too.

Re:Single trip Ski / Sports Insurance

If you go on holiday more than once a year it generally works out cheaper to get annual cover.

As has already been said your E11 (or whatever its new name is) won't cover the costs of rescue or repatriation, merely the equivalent of the local NHS eqivalent (which isn't free in many countries). The Carre Neige will pay for the rescue only. A good travel policy will cover your rescue, repatriation and medical expenses

Re:Single trip Ski / Sports Insurance

It's still worth looking at Direct Travel for single trips. Just make sure that the Policy offered covers Search and Rescue.

AFAIK the Carre Neige Insurance purchased with a lift ticket in France, DOES cover repatriation.

http://www.carreneige.com/en/index.php

If you are in Switzerland and rescued by Air-Glaciers in Valais, then your EHIC will cover 50% of the cost. Better be well insured for the other 50%! Most accidents are taken to Sion Hospital, where your EHIC is accepted for treatment.

Moneysupermarket were notifying of an annual winter policy for GBP26. I have just changed from Direct Travel after 10 years ~ always had good service from them, but they changed their Ts&Cs so no longer fit for purpose.

Re:Single trip Ski / Sports Insurance

I have a Travel Insurance Policy with Endsleigh, which is about GBP90/year, and I added Wintersports for the rest of the year for just GBP23 - seemed like a pretty good deal to me :-)

I would be very interested in seeing a policy with that amount of skiing cover. Do you happen to have a link to the online policy doc?
All I could find on the Endsleigh site was the FAQ's Page, where I found this:

26. Can I extend winter sports cover beyond 17 days on an annual multi trip policy?
If you have chosen an annual multi trip policy with the winter sports option your cover will include up
to a maximum of 17 days winter sports in total during each period of insurance. Unfortunately this
cannot be extended, so if you would like winter sports cover for a longer period please opt for a single trip
policy.

https://travel1.endsleigh.co.uk/Documents/Travel/MultiTripTravelPolicyFAQs.pdf

Do you have a different product?

Re:Single trip Ski / Sports Insurance

Oh - that's really interesting if that's what you've found :S When I extended it, she said it covered the whole year, so I assumed that was an unlimited number of days. Hmmm - guess that's why you should always check the small print! Will check my policy and let you know....if that is the case, I'm not very impressed because I'm using up most of that in this one trip!
