Sparkly Air.

Im sure you have all seen this before but for me it was a first and i found it quite amazing.
It was sooooo cold the air sparkled.
There was no snow falling, it was a blue sky day......It went on for days.

It was quite magical.

Its very fine ice crystals blowing about & reflecting the light or
its you gopro shorting out. :shock:

Its like being inside a glitter ball it is so pretty - we had it at Zell am See last week too. Was not so much fun going up in the chairlift as it was stinging my face :)

yeah saw that in tignes a week ago. looks crazy but hurt my eyeballs when moving though it at speed.

I try to ski with tony but you just want to ski down the mountain on one leg with hands in the wrong position and not wait for us slower skiers. See you in the kk bar. Your round! :)

It's been like it for a while here, my oh says the moisture in the air is frozen. A young child last week described it as "Glitter falling out of the sky." I like that description best.

You're not still going on about the hands are you? My God, you told Skidaddle his hands were wrong a couple of years ago....he hasn't forgotten that! Its impossible to fault his skiing style to be honest, but you've managed it - brilliant!!!

Mooserwirt, Stewart. Not the KK. You'll never find the KK, and I mean that not because I don't think you'll be able to ski to it, but because its a little hidden.
Anyway, if you ski there you deserve a beer.
However, I have to witness this event, you can't just turn up in a taxi or walk up from the village )

Giong back to this sparkly stuff if you don't mind ~ A friend described having seen it in ADH and lo' and behold I had it in my back garden the next day.

Very fine snow and a bit of sun. Beautiful.

What i was seeing was not snow. The sky was cloudless.
It was the water molecules in the air itself freezing

I just pressumed it was very very fine snow and as I said it was sunny but I just pressumed, again that there were some clouds up there somewhere. But isn't a snowflake just rather pretty frozen water molecules?

Anyway, I definately saw sparkly stuff in my back garden when it sure was cold!

Its definitely something to do with tiny particles freezing, i did find a link explaining it but I've lost it.

Last week ton the radio the weather chap was talking about supercooled water - not snow.

The presenter said he'd never heard of before in however many years of listening to the forecasts.Wether chap said it's very rare it happens, has to be exactly right amount of moisture i the air and to be very cold.
Reckon it could have been that.

Or you had bee drinking..... )

I was in Skipton where we had that frozen rain. It was exactly that, looked like it was slashing down but as soon as it landed it froze. I walked out to the work car park and slipped on my arse on the stuff :oops:

Probably the opposite to snapzzz weather ;)

It is a great place, entrance to the Yorkshire Dales, just on the edge of local hiking country. Can be bleak in the winter. Not as bleak as Norfolk during the rest of the year though :)

We saw beautiful glistening particles floating in the air in La Tania recently ....we called it "fairy dust". Just found out is is in fact a phenomenon rarely seen outside the arctic called "Diamond Dust".
