Hurray it's finally coming....

Snow forecast for pretty much the whole of the uk. Living in Leeds I'm sure we're gonna get a fair bit, there forecasting 5/10cm..... I was walking up consiston in the lakes last weekend and in places the snow at the top was knee deep.. :shock: who said you have to go to Europe for powder?

Yes I was going to say but to who of us is this a living nightmare in the uk..... It doesn't usually bother me too much as I'm self employed and work locally...

Normally quite like a bit of snow but not this week - too many complicated journeys to do without having to worry about snow, ice and idiots !!

Been snowing 20 mins here in South Lincs. If its snowing here it means it will be bad, we dont normally get much.

Got about 5 cm here in Newcastle.no signs of ploughs or gritters and even on the A Roads its lying. Think its going top be fun driving to work in the morning.as long as its all gone by next Friday for the drive up to Edinburgh for trip to Arraba!

Was lovely walking home from the local pub last night around 8:30 with Mrs P and 7 yr old, felt like was back in ski resort as was cold, heavy snow and a white out. Got back to the house and 7 year old daughter wants to build a snowman. 1 hr later of lots of snow play and a huge snowman I was done.

I think I will be expected to do it all again today. So tempted to get skis out but the thought of walking up a hill with them doesn't excite me.

About 8" snow in norwich I know this cause I just swept it off the car :evil:

4" in North Norfolk, very pretty!

No. 1 son is out somewhere, hopefully at his mates, got to go and get him later which should be fun on the little country lanes.

Yes we've got a similar amount in S Lincs. Luckily I haver no airports today, but heading to Stansted at 4am tomorrow could be interesting.
I think the Merc will be staying put and I'll use the Seat with the snow tyres.
Roads here are totally white.

Popped out for a test on the roads earlier. The MPV with winter tyres blasted through anything, the Merc was s different kettle of fish altogether. Rear wheel drive and snow/ice don't really get on, especially auto gearboxes.

I went from Leeds to Manchester yesterday and it wasn't too bad, much thicker snow had fallen in Leeds.... It was about 6" this morning when we got back. It's quickly turned to slush in most places though now....

Has anyone actually got their skis out in the UK when it has snowed and walked up a hill only to ski down not very far and then do it over again?

Yep. Me. We choose a steep, but not very long hill (takes forever getting up otherwise) then do as many long turns as possible to make it last.
It's kind of pants, but will do if desperate.

Yes I did last yr when we had all the really thick snowfall..... I got as far as the end of my street and realised if I wanted to go any further I'd have to walk. In the snow we had it was probably about an hours walk, it's not actually that far but with the conditions....... I just turned round and came home.

The place I'm talking about is a local golf course and seems to be the usual sledging spot for kids etc when we get the snow.... I'm yet to find out if it's any good though. :lol:

I went skiing in the garden last weekend. Didn't go very far or fast (I live in East Anglia and we don't do hills very well) but at least I got to put on my skis.

Then we had a vin chaud to celebrate.

:lol: no it's not gotts park but that would be a great place to have a mess about in good snow.... I'll try that next time. It's rawdon golf club.

Love the deck chair idea, I think tomorrow morning after tonight's dump i will put my ski gear on, including boots, get one of the garden chairs ( that I haven't put away since last summer), plant the skis in the snow next to me and open a cold beer or heat some red wine and give it a fancy french name .

Then pretend I am sitting at le folie douce in Val.

We just had the 4th warmest January on record and only about two inches of snow. From the sounds of it, UK is the new Minnesota. I should move back and open an ice fishing shop.
