Ski Jumping lessons

Hey,

I am going to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany in a week for a bit of skiing and I notice that they have a ski jump there. I would love to have a lesson / course on how to do it but I'm finding it hard finding any information on who does these courses.

I am interested in courses not only at this resort but potentially anywhere else around the alps, or from anyone who has any experience or recommendations of lessons.

Looking forward to a reply!

Cheers

Re:Ski Jumping lessons

Hi Amorgos, this could be interesting, especially if you promise to post some videos

Best advice I can offer if there are no other replies, would be to contact the governing body for the sport.

They are part of the FIS who can be found here...

http://www.fis-ski.com/uk/disciplines/skijumping/

But they also have a dedicated website at...

http://www.fisskijumping.com/

Re:Ski Jumping lessons

Ive often idly wondered how you train for ski jumping as, it seems to me, the only way to train for jumping off a geet big ramp is to jump off a geet big ramp!?

I think you're mad/brave in equal measures and wish you well! (and Ive jumped off the Stratosphere Tower in Vegas so I'm no wimp but really.........)

Re:Ski Jumping lessons

Ski jumping courses are run in Courchevel. They were featured in one of the DM Ski and Snowboard magazine earlier this season.

Apparently, you start on the 10m jump (I've done this on conventional skis - scary enough) before graduating to bigger hills.

great fun mate - once you have stepped off but its the hardest step ever - bit like the initial push for ski jumping I suppose

Re:Ski Jumping lessons

Thanks for the reply all.

I will contact the sport governing body, that's a good idea!

I was in Courchevel in december, but staying in Meribel. I didn't realise there was a ski jump there.

I've always wanted to try it but never really looked into it :-)

And no its not a matter of just throwing yourself off a big jump, you practice on far smaller runs for a long time first. (I know that bit at least!)
