Ski maintenance...what do I do ??

Instead of always renting skiis, they "forced" me to buy my skiis when I handed them back on the last day of my trip in Feb 2011!!!!. Having never owned skiis before, is there anything I need to adjust or oil or unscrew ? Tension settings etc ?? Or can I just pack them for the next trip just as they were when I used them last year ?

If you have any doubts about the bindings, you can take them to a ski tech for testing. Otherwise if they were set correctly before, there should be nothing to do.

You should sharpen your ski's edges and wax the bases. You can learn how to do it yourself, or find a ski store that will do it for you. If you only ski one week a year, it would take a few years to recoup the cost of tools and materials for doing it yourself.

Ideally at the end of the season you should have the bases cleaned and storage wax applied release settings on bindings, then for next season have the bases scraped, sharpen edges and apply wax for skiing, unless there is extensive damage to base do not have a base grind as this reduces life of the skis.
You can pick up liquid wax from Toko or Zardoz not wax make sure bases are clean and dry and apply for storage to protect edges from rust
