Cold pinkies

Do silk lining gloves actually help with cold fingers?

I wear gloves (yes, I know mittens are warmer but I cant get on with them) and find that I get cold fingers when it is really cold & I am still - say on a chair lift when windchill is blowing to -15C. Do silk lining gloves actually make a difference?

Re:Cold pinkies

Go to bed you naughty boy!

I find silk liners very effective but others don't (previous thread).
Decent gloves are the most important and no drafts between glove and jacket but liners keep the pinkies warm when it is very cold.
Look forward to hearing about VT when you get back.
:D

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Will look for thread....

I have great gloves with no drafty parts. But sometimes the cold just seeps through - I sometimes get the white finger syndrome when holding a beer

That's how bad it can be!

Cheers, you have a good one too!! :D

Charcoal hand warmers - place them on the top/back of hand. I have some gloves with a zippered compartment to hold a charcoal warmer http://www.snowshack.com/detail/SNW+SW-40252+S_Swany+Womens+X-Change+II+Glove+Black (though I got them at TJMaxx for about $25). There are some very good leather ski mittens around that don't feel too bulky (http://cgi.ebay.com/New-Reusch-Leather-Ski-Racing-Noram-Fingerless-Mittens-/260690386111).

I have Reynauds where your extremities lose circulation easily and my fingers go white and "dead", I find that a combination of decent gloves plus liners help. I am trying mittens for the first time this year so will see how I get on with those!!

Re:Cold pinkies

Arms straight by your sides, turn your hands out 90 degrees at the wrists, and pump the shoulders up and down. You can actually feel the blood flowing into your hands after about 15 seconds. I had to do it a lot in St Moritz as it was -27c up on Piz Nair.

Re:Cold pinkies

Mittens are better than gloves - the fingers share the heat and the exposed surface area is reduced.

You can wear liners inside for extra insulation - silk if you prefer.

Re:Cold pinkies

Bought a nice pair of liner gloves last week in La Plagne. It was very cold on several of the days - the straps on our ski poles were usually frozen solid by the time we got up some of the higher chairlifts

I found the liners made all the difference and ensured that I had nice toasty pinkies all day

Two pairs of thin ski socks took care of my tootsies

Tony - I just mimicked that dance in teh office to work it out - I got some odd looks

Andymol - with mittens I find I cant do anything - only having a thumb and a big chunky hand getting things out of pockets is a challenge. Hip flask would need to be on a bungee rope!

Wanderer - that sounds mighty chilly! I will wait until I get there on teh weekend. Temps not looking that low, just snowy mon - wed :D
