Late trip March/April

Hoping to do last minute with myself and hubby, son in Austria with his school so thought we might nip off somewhere too. Where is likely to be a good option, both intermediates. Have been to Pila and Arinsal so far. Gonna do last minute if possible to save a few pounds.

Re:Late trip March/April

That's not really that late in the season so you should have good snow and skiing and the advantage of sunshine - mind you after saying that it will probably snow all week now !!

First choose your country.
Then look for high resorts with high skiing. North facing slopes will hold the snow much better and be less slushy in the afternoon.
In France I would be looking for a resort with north facing slopes at or above 1600m. With skiing up to at least 2800m.
I'm not so sure of heights in Austria for instance but someone will know.
With a late booking you can wait and see how the snow develops over the next couple of months.
But bare in mind that you are running into Easter week and kids on holiday so will be taking a gamble on availability.

Re:Late trip March/April

That's our preferred school holiday week and we've done it many times.
Been to Puy st Vincent, Les Saisies, Samoens and Val Thorens and had great weeks at all.
Ok - the snow might not be tip top unless you get a top up, but we've always had enough of a base to ski.
It doesn't tend to be quite so busy as Feb half term and I like the warmer evenings to chill afte skiing.
As OldAndy says problem though is booking late might be risky. It is still school holiday after all.
Good luck.
Dids
