I need some advice choosing skis!

Hi

I just bought ski boots and I want to buy skis but I need advice in choosing the right skis.

I am 6ft 4" medium build.
I am a intermediate skier.
I mainly ski on piste at Glenshee.

I seen these skis.
http://www.sailandski.co.uk/acatalog/Salomon_Enduro_LX800_Skis__Z10_Bindings_2012.html

I don't want skis to be too long. I would prefer them about 1500mm. will it be OK for me to get that size even though im 6 ft 4"??

Please help!!

Thanks :)

I would think 168cm would be a minimum for your height/weight/experience. After a couple of hours, you really wouldn't notice the extra 18cm, but it will make a huge difference in the performance of the skis.

Re:I need some advice choosing skis!

I am 6ft 3in, and an experienced skier. I have normally skied 185s straights, but also occasionally run out on my 200 K2carvers.
Last season I bought a pair of 165 Atomic carvers, mainly to reduce the leverage on my knees.
I find that after 10 mins, my action has adjusted the the ski change.

Re:I need some advice choosing skis!

Way too short. I am 5'6" and, being female, light build and my Head Supershapes Titan's are 156. This was length I was recommended for my first beginner's carvers when I first learned in 2004 and I've skied a lot since then. All my other skis are longer. Titan and Enduro are in the same category. Correct length for you should be 175, or at least 168 as the very minimum but that would be on a shorter side (you said you prefered short skis). I can't see how anything shorter than this will work for you. 150 is way outside your range for any skis.

I'm 5 foot 8 without ski boots and I ski on 166's and definitely wouldnt go any shorter, and have considered going longer.
150 for someone who is 6 foot 4? You might as well be on blades.

Re:I need some advice choosing skis!

I was always told that your skis should be mid way between your chin and bottom lip as a learner, progressivly getting longer as experience gets better , but no longer than top of your eyes. I'm 6 foot (well nearly) 179cms and like skis 163-169 preferring a bit shorter for better turning and as I am really old and don't go too fast so don't need longer stable blades. Thats the theory at least!! )

Re:I need some advice choosing skis!

Bald_Eagleman, gives excellent method of selecting ski length,,,with one exception as you become a "better" skier.

Yes by all means use the chin to nose range,,but as you get better the cut or way a ski is designed has some importance.

For GS type skiing a longer ski above nose is preferred for stability.

For powder skiing a longer ski ( and wider ski ) is preferred since you want to float on snow surface !

Of course try all types of skis and all types of lengths for your personal selection !
The choice is yours!

Pavel
