Things that remind me of skiing

I just popped in to my local convenience store for something (ok, wine) and there was a distinct smell of what I recognised to be melted wax, naturally this reminded me of skiing (but I doubt there was anyone waxing their skis out the back of the Co-Op).

What reminds you of skiing, BEFORE you actually leave the country for your holibobs/seasons?

First pint in the airport - no matter what time of day it is. I'm not on holiday til I've had a beer!

Specifically ski related though would be: ski Sunday theme music, anyone mentioning the words "fondue" or "tartiflette", the heartbeat skip when the preview brochures from Inghams and Crystal hit the doormat and finally anyone saying "pass the bread".

The last one is just for you two Nelly...

Re:Things that remind me of skiing

Most ski flights are 6 or 7 am especially from Gatwick, so that first beer is more often than not something like 5am. I'm not a big fan that time of day I have to admit.
But its not a skiing thing, its just a holiday thing.

For me, I spend almost every day at an airport, and it always makes me think about getting on a flight.

The smell of Piz Buin makes me think of skiing, the face cream especially.

I'm also reminded every single day as my skis stand next to my desk.

Plus, I guess like most others on here, my screensaver is a skiing photo.

Re:Things that remind me of skiing

Ha,,,,,,,,things that remind me of skiing!
Do you have a minute or two ?

Like Dave Mac I have a great great view of skiing which welcomes me every morning as I touch "base" with fellow skiers all over the world.

Every morning where ever I am I walk , several kilometers before sun rises! There is a time when the morning air is "nippy", sharp and cold. Thoughts come to mind which you all do not want to know! Freedom, wind, soaring.

Some women think that exotic perfumes will "attract" all men! Me,,it is that smell of melting wax. Instantaneously my brain triggers neurons firing like a "fireworks display" ! Feelings, thoughts, images all flood my imagination.

Finally when I can not stand it anymore, I put on my boots, my ski jacket, ski gloves and slowly walk to my butcher. He knows what will happen since I have been doing this for years. He just looks at me,,,,,opens the giant freezer and lets me in for 15 minutes of quiet cold "spiritual" contemplation of events past and events to happen!

I exit ready to wait another week or so !

Re:Things that remind me of skiing

Wearing fleece, and hardly ever anything else for the next four months. It really feels like the ski season now, but in April the feel of denim next to my skin reminds me that it's all over.

I took my daughter to Disney in Paris last week, I paid 8 Euros for a beer, THAT reminded me of skiing :-)

As soon as September has finished, every time I see the skis in the garage I start to get excited.

Re:Things that remind me of skiing

The year before last I went into my local ski shop with my sons girlfriend to get her kitted out for the coming ski holiday. By the time we came out it had started snowing heavily and it had already settled. Traffic was at a standstill and it took us ages and ages to drive home in the snow. When we did eventually arrive back Tim had roasted chestnuts and mulled wine ready for us! For a moment it was just like being there! :D
