Bode Miller back to his best.

One of skiings favourite sons Bode Miller showed some of his old magic today to win on the Birds of Prey. Like to see him put together a challenge for the overall title this season.

Re:Bode Miller back to his best.

Definetly looks like he is enjoying his skiing. He was relaying messages to other team members after his run, mark of a true professional. Good to see.

Miller along with other athletes are concerned about the proposed changes to ski length & turning radius.

See link
http://www.skiracing.com/?q=node/10843

FIS is a crock.

Absolutely, they are. I have been following this story since it broke in October. As much as I take the p*ss out of myself for skiing 215 long straight Kneissl White Stars, in any conditions, ice, deeps, moguls, it was all we had. There were no piste machines. Every run was off piste, then moguls.

But skis have changed, and become safer. A couple of years ago, BASI changed the rule on ski radius, but that was to allow that the instructor could only ski on what the punters could ski on.
This is different. The stats speak for themselves. This was a 6 year study. During that period, they interviewed "63 athletes, coaches and industry experts"

Given that they would have spoken to every major ski manufacturer ~ (they wouild have left themselves open to being sued, had they not), that does not leave very many people at the coal face being interviewed.

They change the radius, but they did not even address binding safety? Why? Well, binding technology change has big ramification for manufacturers, new design, research, test, tooling, marketing, stock, market acceptance, destocking. The cost is immense. Ski radius in an easy, minimum cost target. Professor Erich Muller said as much.

Manufacturers are always on the look for low cost change ~ as my ski buddy Mel say, "ski manufacturers have a lot of mortgages to pay".

It isn't just Bode Miller contesting this, Didier Cuche was early to protest, along with others. Hujara is showing a deal of arrogance, but that is understandable, because the process virtually excluded those most affected, and I guess he has reached a late realisation.
Why does the name Sepp Blatter occur to me?

Re:Bode Miller back to his best.

FIS is more interested in public spectacle than athlete safety. I think they want the racing to look more difficult than it could be. When it comes to real safety issues like the huge jumps at the end of DHs, they worry more about viewer ratings.

What this particular issue is about is the newer compound side cuts. The new multi radius side cut designs can turn much more sharply than an older side cut with less radius variation along it's length. This, along with new camber profiles is revolutionising skiing.
