Take my hat off..... Pisteurs, we thank you

Ok we all know the story so far this yr regarding the snow.....

I just wanted too take my hat off already to the fantastic job the pisteurs ( is this the right word ) do on a daily basis.... Just looking at the cam for val thoren and they already have the main runs open through and around the village which considering we haven't had snow yet is pretty amazing.

Without these guys doing such an amazing job we wouldn't be able to enjoy what we LOVE !

Echo that crispy ..
And, fingers crossed, dancing done, sacrifices offered etc.

Their work load will be immense next week if/when the real snow arrives.

Agreed ... last year in morillon poor snow but the guys out there earnt their dosh my maintaining a good quality piste ... :thumbup:

Totally agree. They often do an amazing job, up the mountain in the dead of night.

I've tweaked the title of this thread; perhaps we could post replies when we see impressive results appearing on the webcams?

Been keeping an eye on Val D'isere - the second webcam shows just how much work they are having to do - amazing to see how its transformed!

TSR Video of opening weekend in Zinal...of course the French Alpine Team had already been skiing these slopes for most of November well away from webcams and TV crews!

The Pisteurs (ski patrollers) are the people responsible for safety and rescue. It's a pretty risky job that doesn't pay that well, but they always get to make the first tracks.

Snow making is carried out by the grooming team, its pretty labour intensive especially at this time of year when the base for the coming season is being laid down. It takes 40 people to operate Zermatt's 760 snow lances and 40 snow cannons. Snow cannons are gradually being replaced by lances as their operation can be automated.

Tignes webcam from the Grande Motte glacier - you can see the cable car cabin stuck higher up.
Rather them than me!

A couple of seasons ago my nephew worked in Morzine and had an apartment that overlooked the bottom of a piste.

One evening he saw a couple of lovely young blondes standing at the bottom of the piste clearly waiting for someone.
He was puzzled as to who they were waiting for until a piste basher pulled up, opened the door..let the girls in and took off up the mountain with them both in the cab with him!
