Gutted, trip cancelled.

Well, i had my second trip of the season penciled in for feb 4th with my little sister but she has cancelled on me....GUTTED.
Looks like i won't be skiing twice this year after all as i don't really fancy a solo trip.

Anyone been alone? was it a good experience?

just aim to be somewhere where someone else you know if going. we should actually get a list going of who is going to be where and when so if there are any singletons that need company they can book appropriately .

After you've told her what a larry let down she is, go find someone else to go with you, or join up with another group going when you intend to go.

Theres spaces in St Anton 3rd march...... 8)

Well I've got a group of 12 booked, but I believe our hotel had a couple of rooms left, and there are other places in the same resort if people want to meet up for skiing etc, like poor old Snapzzzz for example

Yep, a few times. Always good.

As long as you're not a psychopath, a good bet is probably a small independent, catered chalet. They'll have other guests you can ski with; and most seem to offer some kind of "ski hosting" nowadays too so you'll have company on the mountain if you want it.

If that sounds good I can recommend Snow Chalet in La Clusaz, who I've stayed with a few times. I think they've looked after a few other J2Skiers too...

...the host is sporting a mildly alarming 'tache this month (all in a good cause) but don't let that put you off... 8)

If you do go on your own, try one of the TO's who offer ski hosting (Ski Miquel perhaps) and then you have a ready made social group to ski with.

Thanks guys. By hook or by crook i will get away again.

The most annoying thing is i offered to pay for for her if she just looked after her spends and got her self a jacket and trousers.

Tony, thanks for the info.....sadly march is not an option for me at the moment.

Admin, will look into that...i know most of the big TOs do hosting, i tagged along on one last year.

I've never been alone personally but my mate goes quite regularly. He used hofnar or pistepals and always has a good word to say about them. Like someone else mentioned, you get ski guiding and other like minded people to hook up with. Unless you're the kind of person that people don't get along with!

Now that IS a bummer.

We have a few come with us every year because of the on-piste hosting.

There's a few forums for solo skiers.

I am in the sme boat apart from mine is booked and part paid for!!

Friend from work agreed to come to Italy endof January so I found flghts and some great accommodation DIY and now he has a new girlfriend he is off on Holiday to the sun with her, so leaving me high and dry!!

I have flights booked from Stanstead on Thursday 26th January 2012 arriving in Turin at around 11 am it's about a 15 euro transfere by bus and train to Sauze D'oulx where we will be collected by skidoo and taken to the mountain restaurant which is also a hotel whichis located in the middle of piest 33 and 2000 at around 2000 meters.

return flight leaves Turin on Monday 30th January 2012 at around 10pm so we can get 4 full days skiing in for only 3 days off work result!!

Poor you. I hope you find someone else to go with.

My younger sister did that to me, as well, a few years ago. She had a last minute panic about being middle-aged and hurting herself ski-ing (she's a very good skier) and cancelled her trip even though it meant losing nearly the whole of the cost of her accommodation and flights. So the kids and I had to ski without her.

I was hoping that one of my friend would ski with me and my grown up kids during our New Year holiday in Meribel but unfortunately they are all busy with other things.

To answer the question, I get time alone every year, and it's just great. It helps that most of those trips are in my favourite place, so I have friends there anyway.

It is surprising how many people you chat with on the gondola that you can have a lot a good skiing with. I have met several J2skiers in the gondela. I have skied with both of the first two J2skiers!

In Stuben, on a solo day, I once got to ski, and then share a beer, with some of the Austrian ski team coaches,! And another day, in Niederau, with the Austrian Ladies ski team. (Details of that episode are witheld!)

Just go for it!

I went on my own last year and made some brilliant friends! We're actually all going again in feb. Skiing is so sociable! Don't worry, you'll love it!

That is terrible.

I have been skiing alone a couple of times, once to Banff and the other to Kicking Horse. It was great. Skiing is one type of holiday where it is very easy to meet people. Consider a trip to one of the North American resorts. Without the language barrier (well most of the time), it will be easier to make friends. Also, the bars seem to be more geared up for single people to sit at the bar and have a meal and chat.

Alternatively you could do a road trip - hire a car and move with the snow from place to place, staying in cheap hotel/motels.

Mattski - I am kind of stuck with 4th Feb onwards but your trip sounds really tempting. It took me a lot of begging at work to get that week and don't think i could change it.....if i can i will be in touch for sure....Thanks

I went to Niederau on my own last January.

It was my first solo ski trip and I was getting second thoughts but I needed the break.

I enjoyed myself so much that I didnt want to go home to the wife (like always :lol:).

My top tip would be to book up for ski school for the duration. This way you get to go out with likeminded people and make friends.

This was what I did and I am meeting them out there again next time.

Trust me, it is great and like said by others YOU CAN DO WHAT THE HECK YOU WANT.

Good tip is not to get hammered upon arrival and end up hugging the toilet all night.
