Headcams!

Every year I intend to get a headcam and never do but this year I'm going to get one before skiing next month.

Anyone got any ideas on which one is best? Value for money, quality, etc?

For my money, the gopro is by far the best. It is more versatile than any of the other cameras out there. I would highly recommend the chest mount as well as the helmet mount as it provides a slightly different view. If you also get the bicycle mount you can mount it on a ski pole. For me it is a no brainer as it also mounts to the front of my surfboard. My advice is to check out some of the videos online of the different cameras, youtube is a great starting point to see what best suits yoou.

I'd love a camera for skiing but can't really justify the cost for a bit of fun I may only use once or twice.
I do fancy one of these because they don't need a helmet or straps to hold on and you can see what you are filming on the screen.

Anyone any experience of these Adreno cams or similar.
Don't think the quality is anywhere near as good as GoPro, but you pays your money etc.

With the Gopro hd hero 2 out now shop's might do deals on their old stock hd hero's.
Brand new ones on ebay GBP160 mark

I brought my Gopro hd hero a couple of months ago(great..already out of date) after failing with my brother's Contour HD last year and recorded 2 hours of hd footage of the bottom of my ruck sack with no way to delete the files. You need a laptop to do it . With the Gopro you can do it all from the camera.

With the wide angle lens of the Gopro you can pretty much just point it in the general direction and you're guaranteed not to miss anything .No need for a battery hungry screen . :)

You can now get a bracket which holds two Gopros side by side and a bit of software that turns the footage into 3D.

LOL, why do I think it would make you look like Johnny Five sking down the hill if you had one of those on your helmet :lol:

I used the small Muvi Veho for a couple of years and when it worked, it worked well. It did have a knack of not recording sometimes. Price is now about GBP40.

For me it's a toss up between the Muvi veho HD and the contour HD....but I can be persuaded.

hmm

i looked at a gopro but couldnt justify the price for my current situation (high outgoings getting kitted out to do my first season)

the only shoots 2MP but the quality seems very reasonable for less than fifty quid all in :mrgreen:

I have the muvi and just bought a Go Pro. The Muvi is ok but the quality is nothing like the go pro.

Would happily sell the muvi for GBP30 if anyone wants it.

The problem with the Muvi / Veho is knwing what you've got in view - it mounts ok to a ski pole but I struggled to get good videos - quality OK but far too many shots of my shadow, the ski and the piste and not enough of my daughter doing the required elements for her PE GCSE. The lack of view finder is the problem. Helmet mounting wasn't easy with my helmet but again it is surprising how much you you maintain your gaze just by moving your eyes even when you actively try to move your head to keep the view in shot.

The other problem with the videos was trying to get her to remember how to do snow plow turns and swings for the video having ditched snowplows years before after about 2 days on the snow!
