Trying to book a trip for a couple of 50 somethings who enjoy advanced piste skiing but can't decide which side of the border to stay...... :roll:

I've looked into both recently. As far as I can see the main upside of Italy side is food And slightly easier access to skiing, but the better skiing is on Swiss side. Main drawback for cervinia is if the high lifts shut I think. Plenty of decent cruising over Italian side though.

Sorry, there's me commenting on somewhere I haven't been to. How foolish of me. Apologies to the Mayor of N with the big chip )

Stayed in and skied both. Italy will be cheaper and it's a more compact resort, so the access to the skiing is much easier. Runs on the Italian side are cruisey, the coffee is better, and it's a more relaxed vibe )
Zermatt is a BIG village, bus or leg it to the slopes, taxi for folks who are well off. Big range of skiing to suit all standards, and chance to choose a hill based on the weather that day.

Zermatt expensive. You have to park down the mountain and get a train up to the resort of Zermatt as it totally carfree. It is extremely beautiful though, but this makes it very expensive. It is also a long trip to the pistes!

Another benefit of staying in Zermatt, is the wonderful view of the Matterhorn. It looks very ordinary from the Italian side.

I looked into this for new year and decided that Cervina was the better option and the money I saved has paid for mine and and girfriends new ski boots :mrgreen: :mrgreen: also flying from Donacster Airport was a massive advantage (20 minutes away).

I really can't wait now and already doing the Mrs's head by looking at the Snow forcast everyday!!

Hi Matt,

We had the same dilemma and just booked a week in Cervinia :)
I will probably get International ski pass and spend some time on Zermatt's slopes.
However We DO like Italian food and coffee )
And a day trip to Pila is supposed to be special!

I am sure we will enjoy it :!:
