Recommendations for ski resorts/areas

Firstly I would like to say hi to everyone, I have been a long time user of the site but only just plucked up the courage to sign up.

As the subject states I would like to know peoples recommendations for ski areas/resorts. I am currently in the process of wading through the hundreds of resorts on all different sites trying to find that perfect holiday which offers everything I want for the price I want (Its like trying to find a needle in a haystack but by god I love it). I have boarded a number of different French and Canadian resorts, our group did plan to venture over to Japan this season but the costs proved to much for some.

Last year I went to Tignes (We all know how bad the snow was last season in France) I found the skiing excellent and it was perfect weather for a few days in the park. However I still left disappointed as the off-piste at Tignes looked out of this world and due to conditions I never got to ski any of it.

So back to the point, if any one has any resorts of ski areas they would like to throw in the mixer I am all ears.

Volf,

At the moment we have a mixed group. I would say that we range from intermediate - advanced ski/snowboard. The majority of the group will stick to the groomed runs and use reds/blacks. A small group of use will probable like 1-2 days of offpiste/backcountry (A decent ski park would be nice a well).

We are all aged between 25-30 so a good apres ski would be nice but nothing to excessive.

At the moment travel time is not an issue but this could be restricted by the fact we would like to keep the budget for each person to under GBP900pp (everything included).

Firstly go back to Espace Killy in better conditions because you're right in thinking the off piste is out of this world.
For a mixed group I'd always recommend Alpe D'Huez. If a resort was designed for groups Alpe D'Huez would be it, it's got something for everyone.
How many in the group?

If you like your Apres go to Austria, go to St Anton.

If you're not too bothered about the Apres and the general cost of things I'd recommend Les Arc/Le Plagne if you want to try somewhere different in France.

Grizwald is probably right. St Anton for the Apres Ski. However, there are alternatives. I'm thinking Deux Alpes or Serre Chevalier. Both of which have reportedly good nightlife, but are cheaper than the Espace Killy. If you can make you down entertainment. A place like Montgenevre gives you 400km of skiing at two thirds of the price. The nightlife however is limited to half a dozen bars.
