Did anyone have a pair of these?

Lots of time on my hands at present - so did a search for the infamous Nordica Polaris boots.

Did anyone out there have a pair of these knee-high beauties in 1980 or 1981?

I wonder if anyone still has a pair in working order!

http://cdn.epicski.com/9/95/950a7477_IMG_6670.jpg
I think RoseR's husband has a pair in white, but he doesn't use them for skiing

It wasn't so much the 'rear entry, single clip' that made them stand out - it was the fact they were knee high. I read an unwarranted fear of knee injuries killed them off commercially.

Re:Did anyone have a pair of these?

One of my friends had pair of these for use with his monoski, but he always used 4 clip boots with skis.

Dave Mac, did you ever try the Nava Ski System?

http://cdn.epicski.com/b/bb/bb947c99_NAVA.jpeg

The boots look like they would be much better for dancing in than your current ones!

Re:Did anyone have a pair of these?

Ha,,,,the Nava system !!!

Italian design and produced!

Yes the "boots" were very comfortable,,,but that rear spring arm?????

You could do some nice SL GS turns on soft slopes ( like in Europe circa 1980's ), but if ever you got into hard mogul type skiing,,no way could rear arm hold you !

Broke two in one week !

What you do not see is a center pin on ski which goes INTO the boot sole. The designers did not think of snow/ice while walking to ski or chalet! That hole very quickly got full of ice and thus you had to have a friend clean out hole !!!!

Strange sight !

Another Italian design which looked great in lab,,but once on slopes,,,,disaster time !

Wish I had kept my test units since they are real museum pieces !

Now let us see if Dave Mac knows the BURT bindings ! ( no cheating by looking up Google David ) !

Another great design far far ahead of its time,,,but at $300 in the 1980's ????

Re:Did anyone have a pair of these?

That's easy!

Burt was a plate binding that had a platform and cables that came off the ski in a fall, rather than separate heel and toe pieces that remain fixed to the ski.

Look, I believe, did something similar in Europe. I recall that at the dry ski slope where I worked in the late 70s/early 80s, we had a number of pairs of skis fitted with these plate bindings. They appeared to work ok, but were a bit fiddly to reattach!
