which resort?!

Hey All,
I am trying to find a resort that suits my whole family! Basically it has to suit my mum the most, she is a beginner skier in the fact that she doesn't have much confidence. We have skied in Covara, Italy a few times now, and she likes the wide open blue runs which run the whole way back to the village. However my sister, dad and myself are all a bit bored of the runs, and especially me and my sister are comfortably doing reds and starting blacks.
To suit us all, it has to have long blues, reds and blacks but not a huge area that is well known and gets crowed (another thing my mum hates). It doesn't have to be a large resort but enough restaurants or village feel to keep us occupied for a week. We are not bothered about transfer time as we travel by train a lot anyway so it's not exactly quick!
We would be travelling mid feb, so a higher resort would be ideal but not necessary.
Please help!!!

Not fussy then?
Have a look at Serre Chevalier. Might not be everyones cup of tea but its varied, got 4 distinctive sectors, and the towns are more traditional for France. I like the place. A lot.

Re:which resort?!

What about Les Saisies and the "Espace Diamant" ski area?

185 kilometres of pleasurable skiing between the Beaufortain and the the Arly valley. Ski from resort to resort, from Les Saisies to Hauteluce, Flumet, Crest voland, Notre dame de Bellecombe and Praz sur Arly.
The Les Saisies ski area offer: 70 kilometres of slopes for every level of skier, from beginners to advanced.

It is known as a familiy resort.

Cheerz,
Stefan

Re:which resort?!

I'd recommend Montgenevre as a great resort. Lots of scope for improvers and lovely confidence building runs for your Mum. With added bonus of being able to ski both France and Italy. There's potential for longer trips to Sauze d'Oulx and Sestriere or even a day in Serre Chevalier - all free on the lift pass - compact village but with enough to keep you happy for a week and not too far to walk.

Its ok for a day trip of 2, but not a lot else going on and limited local skiing. Nice place to have skied though on day visits.
Re:which resort?!

I agree with Tony_H. I also think that Montgenevre is OK for 2 maybe 3 days but I personally feel that it is too limited for a week ski.

Re:which resort?!

You ignore the fact that you have Claviere next door which is effectively part of the domain; the Milky way on your doorstep, as well as 5 other resorts FREE on a week ski pass, which will do for even the most dedicated distance skier.

Re:which resort?!

I really recommend Morzine & Avoriaz. It covers over 650km of piste and one of the largest skiing areas in Europe. Also only 1 hour away from Geneva so a quick transfer.

Pistes are really good and offer lots of different runs for different abilities.

A great place all round!
