So where's your first booked trip next season?

Some of us have already booked, some maybe in the process, some in planning stage.
I've been umming and ahhing over several options for a couple of weeks now, but finally booked this afternoon for 8 of us to go to:

St Christoph in Arlberg

Got a cracking deal (GBP140 off) on a superb chalet hotel, ski in ski out, lift at the front door, straight into St Anton ski area, short bus ride from Lech.....going 3rd March next year, and literally cannot wait.

So, who else has got anything booked yet, and where are you going?

I'm book for tignes again 28th Jan. Going on the train so 8 days on the slopes. Hopefully get a weekend at yad moss if we get some snow here.

Am nearly at the point of booking our flights to Geneva,, possibly 3rd Jan for a week...... just hope it is not going to rain any days like last year and the year before.

I have one booked for Kitzbuhel going on the 4th Feb :)

Am now looking at somewhere in Italy for 1st or 2nd week of Jan.

Les Deux Alpes at the beginning of February, I think. I've noticed it doesn't get much of a mention on here.

Any tips on ski schools? Restaurants, bars etc, all gratefully received.

My 1st ski hol was to LDA and ski school was brilliant. All bars and restaurants were easy to get to. I really enjoyed the place.

Trying to make the most of it whilst I have the chance. :D Originally we planned to just do the one trip however we started looking again and thought why not? We were going to go back to Sauze but my OH found a hotel he liked the look of on the slopes above Morzine so decided to give the Portes du Soleil a go for a change. As my job is on a 3 year contract which runs out next October unless I find something else in the mean time we won't be skiing at all in 2013 :(

Yeah you are right at the moment we can,t really decide where to go I was looking at chatel, dolomites and then little w seems to want to go to livigno, but a late contender may be somewhere in Switzerland, but once we get the summer Hols out of the way we will make a decsion, but have no fears I will keep you posted but at present we are just enjoying the sunshine and vino 8)

Chatel would be a good choice, Ian. I love the place it's a totally unspoilt alpine village with easy access to the Portes du Soleil which, as I'm sure you are aware, offers good skiing for all abilities. It's picturesque with beautiful shops, bars and restaurants. Food and drink is reasonably priced compared to many other french resorts. I've read that there are no package holidays there, which is why it less busy than other ski areas.

I think it would be right up your street...and not too far from us, so we could show you around! :wink:

No where yet....got dates though 14-23/24 Dec ...Suggestions!!.....that are pretty snow sure and not to expensive. Hope to be taking a group of mixed ability of upto 30 incliuding our own intructor. :roll:

Wickers, I know of a village that's utterly unspoiled, totally authentic and makes Chatel look positively urban. Absolutely no package tours either. BTW it's in Switzerland, but they do speak French slowly )

After two weeks in the land of the gods my French has improved no end, the trouble is once they hear my French the locals start to speak English , I had a moan at the waiter tonight about I have been trying really hard to order everything in French and be under stood so why the hell do you keep speaking English to me, I understand most of what they say but it just takes me a few seconds to translate in my head.
But this old idea that the French are rude is so far from the truth only in drome mrs w ordered something and the waiter laughed !!! She possible ordered a dustbin who knows,

Tony we always look fwd to the winter. I couldn't agree more about this Summer. I'm lucky enough to work outside and even I wonder where all the sunshine has been this yr.

Hello all again. Its that time of year again. The Mrs put the Central Heating on the other day :cry: so its time to look for Ski holidays. :D

Booked a group ski in Selva again in March. Said I wouldnt go back till later but it was that good and we havnt even scratched the surface so we had to.

Ive booked time off work for the 14th Jan onwards so looking to book then. I havnt got a clue where yet. Ive always kept away from Austria, I dont know why so may try there. Any ideas or feelings on Austria?

Yes, try it. Knowing what I know about you, you'd love St Anton, Ischgl and Solden. I also think you'd love Mayrhofen. I also have a hankering after Bad Gastein. However i have found Austria to be better in January generally, although a mate has struggled with snow in Saalbach quite a bit in the past 4 seasons that time of year. Obergurgl is high and interests me too, but its limited extent for a mile cruncher like you. Schladming might be worth a look?. Theres loads of resorts to choose from, and plenty of people to tell you they go year in year out and ski no problems. But like anywhere, if the weather is poor the skiing might be affected, particularly low down.

I may be there this year too, Katie. They now charge 25 Euro admission! I tend to go on race training day, by skiing over from Kirchberg, coming in at the race start. (I'm referring to the downhill)

Heading to the downhill, then skiing sunday and monday. I don't know if you've booked flights already but mine were very cheap-GBP49 gatwick to innsbruck (BA fri 20th) and GBP55 munich to manchester (easy jet mon23rd)

Doubt if there is a direct bus Ellmau to Kitz, I will try and have a look later. You can catch the skibus to Hopfgarten, then jump on a train or a bus to Kitz.
No, not booked my flights, I usually get my January flights for nothing, Edinburgh to Munich (air points)

Panic over,having booked a nice hotel in Serre Chevalier next March.
I have been keeping quiet about next years skiing as for quite a while I didn't think I would get out.
In May I was sorted - going with my big sis, somwhere good skiing and low season. Then disaster! She is falling to pieces, poor lamb, and having a hip replacement, so skiing would not be the best idea next year - but, as she says, in 2013 she will be fit and raring to go again.
Son - offered a ski trip either Xmas or Easter - he said NO :oops:
This is so embarrassing - a son who doesn't want to go skiing.
My wife doesn't ski, but does love the mountains, and we have some lovely hols together where I ski and she does her own thing, with lots of meeting up for drinks and food etc. But we have other holidays planned for next year.
The home climate changed about 10 days ago and I didn't hold back but got the planning etc in place - sold her on the trip and booked it!
Relief....
Too late for her to back out now.
All that is left is to tell her I have booked.

We went to Chatel mid Jan 2006 & had a brilliant time. Conditions were fantastic, all the links were open & we made it our mission to ski as much of the PDS as possible, which is easier from Chatel than some of the other PDS villages. Enjoy :thumbup:

Hi Sal, we only ski coffee stop to coffee stop so it will be a bit disappointing if a link is closed and we can't get to the next coffee :evil:

I have just googled it and it is one of those waist high mogul runs, my knees don't like Moguls they complain a lot if I go at them in fact they are likely to complain all week. So best left to the young blood.

Finally, done it this morning!

Gatwick to Innsbruck, Oztal shuttle to Solden and a pleasant looking guesthouse booked via the resort website. All very painless and good value.

Travelling Wednesday to Wednesday, Jan 4 to 11.

Roll on the snow!

I really don't want to sound bitter because Im delighted to have found someone who would accept my proposal but wedding plans and house buying plans are meaning that trips abroad will be sparse this year-hoping when Ryanair put flights on we can get a weekend in April to Bormio cheap-staying with friends.
Dave, looks like ill be at cairngorm with you-hope its as good this year as last 2!
