Decent cheap places to stay in Engelberg, Switz

Hi all, first time poster here.

I am planning a two week driving/ski trip to Engelberg and Les Trois Valees in mid/late january next year to celebrate my 30th birthday and my brother's 30-something birthday.

I am trying to find decent self catered or part-catered accomodation in Engelberg and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or tips on where to stay?

I'd ideally like somewhere thats skiable to the door and has to be big enough for the both of us. I also would need parking.

Any advice would be appreciated

Rob

Re:Decent cheap places to stay in Engelberg, Switz

Welcome to J2ski :D I've stayed in Engelberg, and I'm not sure that there is any accom that is skiable to the door.
There are some hotels close to the lifts, most though are in town. I stayed in an apartment about 300m from the main uplift, booked via Interhome, and it had parking.

Close to the cable car is the Hotel Cathrin, not stayed there, but a pal says it's OK.

http://www.cathrin-engelberg.ch/english/index.php

J2skiers own the Ski Lodge, you could get in touch and see what they can offer.

http://skilodgeengelberg.com/?gclid=CKi4po6MjqoCFdQKfAodIHqxyw
Re:Decent cheap places to stay in Engelberg, Switz

I've stayed in a few places in Engelberg including the Hotels Central and Hoheneck. Neither were expensive, but there is very little ski to door as the main run down ends at the valley cable car station. There may be some ski to door on the Brunni side, but that is a limited ski area and the valley run is often closed, particularly in late season. The ski bus service is typically Swiss-efficient so no ski to door is not too much of a problem and many of the hotels have their own minibus etc.

Re:Decent cheap places to stay in Engelberg, Switz

Thanks for quick replies.

So ski to the door isn't looking likely then, not much of a problem as I'll be bringing my old A4 Quattro over so can even drive to the slopes if need be, but surely the ski bus is included in the lift pass price?

Anyone had any experience with self catering apartments over there? my budget for SC would be max GBP400 for the room/studio

I'll get in touch with the ski lodge and see what they can offer me also

Ta again!

Re:Decent cheap places to stay in Engelberg, Switz

There's lots of self catering accommodation on the Swiss Tourism website http://fewo.myswitzerland.com/holiday-rentals/Engelberg.aspx There is a free shuttle bus http://www.engelberg.ch/en/info/transport/ but the winter timetable's not online yet.
