Old Skis

Hey,

I am very excited about snow this year, and having skied for about a year now (I can jump, grab, ironcross, carve (to quite a high standard) and sindeways grind), I really want to be able to ski at my local hills and in the local forest when it snows. I do not own a pair of skis, poles or boots, so I am looking to but a old pair of skis of ebay or preloved for about GBP20, then a pair of boots for GBP10. Im concerned though, that I won't be able to carve or jump or use them for backcountry due to the old technology. I will only be using them for about 2-3 weeks of the year, so buying a good pair of skis isn't an option. I will be using them for backcountry and light freestyle. Please enlighten me on whether buying a really cheap pair of old skis is going to be what I want.

Cheers,
Ryan :D

Re:Old Skis

Welcome to J2ski :D Spend all your free money on decent boots. Wait until late summer before hunting down some skis. If your boots don't fit, then you won't be able to control your skis, and you risk mashing your feet.

Re:Old Skis

Hey daved :) thanks very much for the offer, but I take it that these skis are 190 in length, and I think these are going to be too big. I'm looking for something around the 160-165 length. Thanks again :D

Re:Old Skis

[/i]Well that's about the right size, but sorry, I'm looking to pay about 30-40 quid maximum for skis and boots :L they're only going to be used for about 3 weeks of the year at my local hills and forests, so I'm not looking to pay that much, sorry :(

Re:Old Skis

Pay GBP30 for boots and your skiing will be poor. If you're going to ski, spend good money on brand new boots properly fitted.

Re:Old Skis

Normally you get what you pay for, but that does not mean to say that you have to pay mega bucks
for your equipment, my suggestion would be buy yourself a decent pair of "daisy roots", then if the skis are only for local use then shop around for a more older up to date pair of skis.
