What's Megeve like

Anyone got information on Megeve. Once a year six of us ski at a different resort. This year we skied at Aspen Snowmass, it will be hard to beat. In 2012 we are looking at France. I was told Megeve is a good resort. What would the snow be like in early March? Where would be a good location to stay? Reports are that is quite pricy, is that true?

You need to tell us a bit more about you and your group... age? ability? preferences? night owls or first-to-last-lift skiers?

Like most ski resorts (French or elsewhere), Megeve is a great resort for some people and not so hot for others - what are you looking for?

As for early March; usually good for snow but occasionally can be pants!

We are all average to good skiers. Agegroup is 55-65 so night life perhaps not too hot. Nice restaurants, Chalet type accommodation where we can all stay together with a lounge room and kitchen. We've been pretty spoilt with some great resorts, Aspen, Vail, Beaver creek, Lake Louise, St Anton, Niseko, Dolomites.

I never skied in Megeve, but was there once in May as my friend has a place there and it's a lovely resort. As for skiing, in my opinion it's too low, so a crap shot really for March. In a season like the one just gone you won't get any skiing at all - I was told it was nothing to do there on skis in early March this year, unless you liked skiing on brown snow. But restaurants are great.

Thanks Verbier, I may look at Switzerland instead as I can't get to Europe before early March. Any ideas on Zermatt. Any other higher resorts in France that may be better for spring skiing?

Tignes is pretty high and is as snowsure as you can get right through until the first week of May, when it closes.

For your groups skills level, Engelberg is worth considering. They have had a big snow winter this year. Easy access from Zurich. Lifts usually close in May.
Zermatt stays open right through the summer AFAIK.

Thanks for the info on Tignes. Looks high enough to still have snow later in the season. What would it be like in late March early April?

To my knowledge, Tignes has no problem with snow in March and early April.
