Tignes in early May

An acquaintance tells he has skied early May in Tignes regularly over the years with no problems in terms either of snow or the resort's facilities being open. Is this right, as I have the chance of few days there the first week of May ? Thanks for any info.

Unless Tignes really lucks out for the whole of April, they'll likely have some of the best conditions in Europe for early May. Bar extreme circumstances most, if not all, of the ski area and facilities will be open.

If Spring brings the odd storm (as it often does to the Alps) then Tignes will be getting freshies while everyone else gets wet! Go.

That's 4 weeks away!

I think any forecasts (if they existed) would be so long range they'd just be a guess

Nothing yet for so far away but I am watching things very closely.

I use www.snow-forecast.com for the actual weather, and the freezing level is really important. Not good at the moment with a week of very warm weather forecast, but no precipitation, which means no rain!!

Here is my brief report of our day in Tignes to give you an idea of conditions right now. Hope it helps to stop you worrying.

A group of us from Les Arcs came up to spend the day in Tignes today (Wednesday 6th April). Found some good snow on the Grande Motte and also on the Tour de Pramecou, Chardonnet bowl and even on La Familiale on our way over to the FD bar party. Even made a quick detour for photos at the 'Eye' at the Aiguille Percee as well. A good a day and although very soft later, plenty of spring snow to be found although the general view of the group was that the snow on the Bellecote in La Plagne the day before was just as good. Tomorrow we shall be in the Three valleys, should be another fun day.

Time to dust off the gear and start packing.
Colder weather forecast for Tignes and even some snow - which won't leave amazing skiing but will freshen things up and allow the pisteurs to work their magic to keep links and some runs open.

Just a quick report to say thanks to Admin for the encouragement to go the first week of May; I did, and it was fantastic. It even snowed yesterday ... the last day of the season !

Excellent! I'm supremely jealous but that's got me grinning; skiing from the last open lift of the season is very cool indeed. 8)
