We were booked for 7th April, but just had an email from the hotel saying that they are closing early. They've had a very bad season.

Re:La Clusaz

Hi, came back from La Clusaz a couple of weeks ago and it was ok. Best bet is to go up to La Balme, the snow was excellent but it did start to get busy as the lower areas suffered. You could still ski down to resort level but it was very slushy towards the bottom. You should still find enough skiing to keep you entertained for a week. Take lots of money its a very expensive resort!!!

Re:La Clusaz

La Balme sector is all still open and skiing very well - and has recent top ups of fresh snow (above 1900m mid station). Aguille and Cret de Loup also all open and a good enough coverage. The links and runs back down to the village are still open (just) but they are sketchy in places and suffering.... You will be able to ski, and Balme has some good conditions... just a shame that with this bizarre season you won't get to enoy the full extent of the resort!

Re:La Clusaz

The blue run down to the village (Guy Perillat) is still just open
For a daily check of whats open and skiing - check out http://www.skiinfo.fr/external/swc_detail.jsp?product.skiinfo.DESTID=EFRCLUSAZ&USERLANG=fr

Its 16 degrees out here in La Clusaz now so only a matter of time before a few more parts close - but should be OK for the weekend.
Re:La Clusaz

Got back today and the skiing in Chamonix was brilliant, so toowas Les Contamines and the only part of MEgeve still open was Cote 2000 so we did that 2x days as well. On arrival I was feeling a bit gutted that Megeve was mostly closed ! Chamonix was awesome though.
However, I plan never to go skiing again March/April , snow is too risky. Dec - end of February I when i will go next season.

Don't forget this year was particularly warm which is not the norm, normally March is a good month to ski with warm days and cold evenings although I have never been tempted to ski April.

Have skied in April 6 times - never had a problem, with most runs open and good snow cover.
Have always maintained it's a fantastic time to ski - but this season is definitely not good.
Worst snow we ever had was February 2007, and we regretted not going at Easter as it snowed later that season.
This year we've had to give it a miss and quite relieved as we'd be going this weekend.
Dids,
You are not alone. I have no idea what Ian is talking about

I am however, most impressed that you've managed to ski 6 times in April. I would have thought that was far too late in the season, but clearly I am totally wrong. I suppose if you pick the right resorts and accept that it will be 'spring' conditions it can be okay.

Ally

Re:La Clusaz

I - along with rather a lot of people - have skied in La Clusaz in April and it's usually a lot better covered than this season. Last time we did this we alternated Spring skiing with a bit of walking - blue skies, alpine flowers and sitting in the sun with a cold beer watching Eagles... what's not to like?

Spring in the mountains is great, and it's not that unusual to get powder snow on La Balme in April. So don't let this year put you off; just accept that you'll get what the weather decides to throw at you.
