14 days

Why does no one go for 14 days skiing? I have done 10 days but find it near impossible to fine package holidays for more then a week

Re:14 days

I have taken two weeks many times over the years one time with a package with no transfers between resorts a real pain and other times when we have driven a week each in two resorts. Struggle to it these days due to holiday restraints.

Re:14 days

Just heading back after 3 consecutive weeks. There are many ski technique advantages to be gained in extending beyond a week. I have also observed that after a week, there are improvements to balance and speed.
Also had three and a half weeks in January, split in two.
I took the opportunity to hire different ski types and lengths, in preparation to buying new skis in the Worgl ski sales.
Re:14 days

I think it can be hard to ski so many days straight, on 7th day my legs just don't want to turn the skis anymore, but then with 2-week holidays people don't have to and can afford to pick and choose. last Sunday we had the worst conditions imaginable, high wind, low clouds, blue ice on pistes with thin piles of blown snow mixed with soil in some places. and lifts were full because for many people it was the much awaited first day of their holiday and they had to go back after 6 nights.

Re:14 days

I've never skied more than 6 straight days, but I do know I think I'd struggle, and personally I wouldn't want to take a ski trip and then not ski, so thats why I take 1 weeks trips at a time.
I think if you go across the Pond it would be different, as I wouldn't want to take just a week for such a long flight, so I'd probably do 10 days and ski 6 or 7 of them, with a day off before and after to prepare for the flight.

Re:14 days

We skied for two weeks for our second ever skiing holiday, which was in Sauze D'Oulx (booked through Thompson). For us it meant more time skiing (13 days vs 12 for two separate weeks) and it also worked out a lot cheaper as you only have one set of flights and IIRC the lift pass was cheaper per day pro rata. At the time we could not have afforded two holidays and the two continuous weeks, the first with group lessons and the second with a few private lessons meant our skiing improved tenfold.

Personally I was fine with 13 days non stop skiing. However, this was not first to last lift everyday and I know by the end my OH was ready for home (I often continued on my own later into the afternoon and I could have happily stayed for the rest of the season!!)

I would happily go for a fortnight again but if you're considering it be sure to pick somewhere with enough skiing to keep you occupied or arrange to stay in two different resorts. Staying in the same place has its advantages though, as the slopes are often virtually deserted on changeover day. :D

Re:14 days

I've done a fortnight in Europe, in Canada and in the US on a number of occasions. It's great - no problem with skiing every day - some days you ski harder than others! And if the weather's bad, you don't feel the pressure not to ease off for an afternoon or morning. Two weeks at Lake Tahoe was perfect - skied in a number of resorts: Heavenly, Squaw Valley, Sierra, Northstar and the very best: Kirkwood.
