Re:where are the conditions good right now

Hi, my suggestion would be to hire a car, and drive to Villars, bout hour and a half. Zermatt last year and found the drive surprisingly easy and a great experience.

Villars also reporting good skiing conditions.

Hope this helps.

PS Transfers shouldnt be too much either.

Marc

If I had a short trip available this coming few days, I'd be heading to Chamonix and trying to get myself up to the Vallee Blanche.

Youre better informed than me bandit, I was suggesting it due to snow reports coming out of cham which suggeat v good conditions. In which case the posted in the area should be good.
Soz

Re:where are the conditions good right now

Big dump forecast for central Austrian resorts tomorrow (Kitz, Soll, Mayrhofen, etc).

However, because of high temperatures likely to fall as heavy rain low down. I would expect that this will pretty much finish off the lower runs in these resorts but should give pretty decent skiing up high, though possibly a bit heavy.

Re:where are the conditions good right now

i keep getting snowmails to tell me how cold it is in St Moritz and how much more snow is forecast. Looks to me like this is a place to go all season and not be worried about conditions.
I have to say that mid Jan it was utterly fabulous in terms of great snow and cold temps when other places were really struggling, and I'd return there purely on that basis alone.

Re:where are the conditions good right now

Vallee Blanche can be a good bet for a bit later, crevasses will be visible quite soon. Now when they are still covered it can be dangerous as snow bridges will be thin. Still Chamonix might be the best bet as it's the closest to GVA. I would avoid Villars, not sure what conditions it is reporting, but I know someone working there and conditions are quite poor, it's simply not high enough. Reports on this sight rarely match the reality.

Re:where are the conditions good right now

St. Moritz is a long way from GVA to go there for couple of days. But yeah, North-East of the country was more lucky in terms of snow this season.
