Skiing end of March/beginning of April

Hey there

I'm new to the forum so please excuse me if I've posted this in the wrong section.

I'm a newbie ski enthusiast. I've only been skiing once a couple of years ago in Serre Chevalier and had the time of my life.

Anyway, me and girlfriend have decided to book a skiing holiday together since we're both going to uni in September so it's our last year together. She has never skied before.

However, the earliest we're able to take time off work is near the end of March or beginning of April. I know that's probably not the best time for skiing but we've got to work around that.

Our budget is GBP800 for both of us (excluding spending money, food, skiing equipment, etc.)

So what are the best places to ski in April? We've been looking at some nice deals in France but we're open other ideas.

Thanks in advance!

Some nice deals in France sound ideal for your purposes!

Somewhere with a high altitude - Val D'Isere/Tignes; La Plagne, Les Arcs, Three Vallees - lots of varied skiing and a fair old percentage of north facing slopes and I'm sure you'll be in business.

Or if Switzerland interests you, Saas Fee with its high altitude and glacier slopes may be just the job!

I think you'll be spoiled for choice!

Re:Skiing end of March/beginning of April

Awesome, thanks!

It's not for definite yet, but it looks like we may actually be able to take time off earlier and possibly go in the first or second week of March.

So what are the best resorts in France? Is it still the higher, the better?

Sorry for all the questions but I don't have much experience and I don't want to spend all that money before doing a fair bit of research.

Thanks :)

We always try to pick a high resort.

Some resorts have glaciers and you can ski all year round. Deux Alpes is an example (3400m at the top). Even when it is slushy or hardly any snow in the village, on the glacier the conditions can be fantastic.

It's a bit of a bind getting up there in the gondola but once up there you can stay all day. Lots of places to stop for a bite to eat or a drink.

So if you are not bothered about ski in ski out then a glacier will at least guarantee you some decent skiing.

Re:Skiing end of March/beginning of April

French half-term is until 12th March. The next week will be busy with the 'no-kidders' and accommodation is scarce. Suggest you try week of 19th onwards.

If your girlfriend has never skied before, make it one with decent nursery slopes and a good atmosphere.

I'm in Montgenevre, just around the corner from Serre Chevalier. It's good for beginners and intermediates. The nursery slopes start high.

There's no point going to a resort with a glacier that you can't ski if you are a beginner. make sure the village and nursery slopes are high to begin with.

I highly recommend Montgenevre and would be happy to quote.

Volf
Montgenevre
