Folks - Am going to Borovets with daughter 5 who has never skiied and another family who are all beginners so know the benefits for learners. Have read about access to the top of Mt. Moussala so assuming it has some coverage , has anyone done this ? One black is not going to keep me occupied

Hi Tremor. I went to Borovets a couple of years ago and if you're an intermediate skier or higher then you'll ski the resort out in a day. I went with a group of friends who'd never skied before and I lasted 2 days on the slopes, it wasn't worth the effort putting my ski boots on. If your're there with your daughter then I'm sure you'll have a great time but don't expect great skiing even on the black run.

Hi Redordead,

I know about the limitations, hence the question about Mt Massala or off piste in general. Like you siad will just have to enjoy the time with the little one and friends who are all beginners also

Not possible to ski from Mount Mussala.difficult climb 6-7 hrs and then a lot of massive rocks from top to Icy lake so forget it.unless you catch gondola night before. Sleep on top of gondola somewhere there, got lucky with the weather and start climbing very e[/i]arly and hope for good weather on the way down.To be honest if you are not experience climber don't bother.Borovets is not your Alps resort where you can venture somewhere on the side and still join the resort .very limited skiing as listed above you could ski all the runs within 4 hours max.that is if the snow conditions are perfect which is unlikely judging by the statistics for the last 4 to 5 years

There are 5 blacks and 11 reds in Borovets. I am assuming that you will also spend some time with your daughter and friends on the greens and blues...So you should have plenty to do.

I am sure you will have fun. :D

I don't think you'll be in a hurry to go back again though as more than a week in Borovets would get boring for someone of your level.

I went a few years ago and will never pay to go back. But I did enjoy skiing for the whole week...Yes I did ski some slopes more than once, but even in the largest of ski resorts I have been known to ski the same slope more than once...Usually the ones I really enjoy.

Even one piste is worth the effort of donning my ski boots! Having said that, putting my ski boots on seems effortless.

PS The Moussala pathway is a run I would avoid everytime....Sooooo boring!

Have to say the so called blue and green runs are a joke in borovets. they areso dangerous. there not much wider than a piste basher . steep drop one side and a ridiculous route down an icy u bend to transition between easy runs before it turns from blue to black in around 50yards. and im sorry but my biggest concern was that you were skiing the village easy runs and all of a sudden you cutting accross a black coming down the moutain. now warning you just pop out of the trees and there you are with the risk of clashing with anyome coming down and to top it off there so narrow my partner a low level skier almost went on to the black trying to avoid the crowd that had built as i result of finding them self at right angles to a very steep black.

but all is not doom and gloom my partner really enjoyed the blues and greens at the top of the gondola. much wider and pleasant views. stay away from the resort runs. venture up top and if you can let your daughter come back down the gondola ( with friends of course ) and you ski and meet her at the bottom. great end to the day . obviously your call regarding your daughter. juat hope you have better weather and conditions than we did. dont be too negative you will enjoy it and im sure your daughter will have a great timw on the long top blue and greens. all the best and hope this has helped.

I don't see any point in raising this thread as the original poster posted in Jan 2011 and I'm guessing he has already been.
