Can anyone give me a real world view of driving to Livigno from Bergamo airport. We're coming over end of March, and are hearing bad stuff about long transfer times via bus/train etc. What's it like to drive, is it a treacherous nightmare of unpassable roads and snow chains, or should we not worry??? Any advice greatly appreciated cheers!

haven't been to Livignio myself but have friends who go there and say the transfer is a pain. March is high season for snow aswell so it could be pretty hairy. Also, I've driven in Italy and Italians are pretty unforgiving on the roads. They don't give you much time to consider what you're doing. If you're not a confident driver I wouldn't recommend it. If you do choose to drive the directions on www.theaa.com are usually good. Click on the link for Route planner and select Europe. Also, the sign posting in Italy is really terrible so make sure you have good directions before you head off. Good Luck!
