That would be true if a TO's ski host was teaching....but they are not.

My hope would be that each TO would now employee a full time qualified british guide for each of its french resorts and continue to offer the service.

Ranchero_1979 wrote:I love all this French bashing. This ruling has nothing to do with French Nationalism. They don't care who teaches, guides etc in France just want you to have correct qualifications. As we have a minimal ski industry in UK people seem to be missing point. Try thinking of it from a different perspective.

British manufacturer of anything works to a standard say ISO 9001, company from abroad or at home comes in and works to a lesser standard destroying British business and reputation. In these circumstances any company or worker within that company would wish for clarification on what standards are required so they can cut their cloth accordingly. I believe the French have clarified this. That means anyone from any nation now has a level playing field. Workers and companies investment in skills has been protected. Has nothing to do if you enjoy a bit of company on your holiday or biscuit with your tea.

Interestingly for all the anti French sentiment, they still work less hrs, have better standard of living, better wine, food etc i.e. Keep on moaning so they can keep on smiling in knowledge British will still come and fund their lifestyle, because they have best skiing terrain in world.

Viva France. I am actually English but at risk of offending someone seems like a lot of little man/small Island type mentality on this topic.

But the French are insisting that people that don't instruct are qualified to instruct. French law states that if they are getting paid they need to be qualified, the trouble is there is no qualification available for the job of ski host. They want them to be vastly over qualified, when the training they already get is sufficient for the responsibility they have.

There should be a simple solution - licence the guides. They should have to undergo a week's mountain safety and leadership course at the start of the season. The course content could surely be agreed between the TOs and a 'reasonable and forward thinking ESF'. Fail and they're out. Also there should be strictly enforced limits to the size of guiding groups and the minimum skiing ability.

I think Dorset Boy's idea is pretty good  :)

Tony, I still think writing a letter is an excellent idea.
I haven't written it yet because I haven't had time. I might write it when I'm on the Eurostar on my way to France in a week's time, and I'll have my French dictionary with me to help, and nothing much else to do on the train.
I hope someone starts up a fighting fund to take it to the European Parliament, if it fails the Appeal in Chambery.

Ally - please can you do the english population a favour. Please do not use a french dictionary to translate a letter into French. It will have less attention paid to it than if you had written it in English.

I am sorry if this dashes your hopes of bringing the French judicial process into line - but I genuinely dont think your letter will have the slightest piece of affect on any outcome. I imagine Le Ski have put a few Euros into paying good lawyers to write letters?

Sorry if that dashes your hopes

Take up Sudoko or take some Nytol and have a kip on the train ;)

Le Ski's legal costs are being covered by a group of British ski operators. So don't expect this to be dropped.
