Tomorrow I'll be booking mr-a and I into the learn-in-a-day course at Hemel for early Feb. I'm borrowing my friend's knee, back and wrist guards and reclaiming my Bonfire salopettes back from my eldest  which I'll be wearing low

Do I need anything else or has anyone got any tips for me. Do I need to know my weight, etc? Do I need to clip my toenails? Any specific areas to concentrate on with the exercises. Lingo I need to learn...

I'm already feeling a bit like a leper so please be nice :D

You don't really need to know your weight, just be prepared to be sore.

Also be prepared to not love it as much as skiing

blonde moment from the non-blonde, weight is for bindings which I, obviously, won't have

I'm hoping the joy will override the bumps and bruises. I'm assuming that I won't have to worry about my knee brace as it'd be pretty hard for me to twist my knees?

The only time I can see your knees would be at risk is if you have one foot in whilst scooting about, a fall wouldn't be great then.

You will have bindings, they just won't be the same as the ones on your skis ;)

You could work out whether you are 'regular' or 'goofy' (which foot will be at the front of the board) before you go. If you stand relaxed and have the OH push you, whatever foot naturally goes forward first should be your leading foot.

Caron, please be careful. I have this vision of you ending up in hospital with broken wrists and a dislocated hip

You are not going to enjoy this as much as skiing IMO. I hope I am wrong on both accounts.

Caron - impact shorts would be a good move (falling and just sitting). Try to relax and think about your (2 only) edges. Be prepared to fall without warning too when you lose balance (you cant just swing a leg / ski out). Enjoy yourself!

Oh, and welcome to the 'dark side' over here you are not a leper..... hehe
Not ALL boarders sit in the middle of pistes.....

sorry Pablo, I meant bindings that release. This is all so new, it's really exciting :D

A boarder in our chalet this holiday caught me unaware (after talking about my desire to try it) and my right foot fell forward. I assume this is regular?

boardbiker, thank you. I've got the feeling that it may really be for me but I don't know why and I may be wrong! I absolutely can't wait.

Tony, bless your warm soft side . Don't worry about me, I'm a tough little cookie
