A couple of years ago, I went to South Lake Tahoe and had a great time in the various ski areas. I didn't want the burden of a car and so opted for a coach transfer from San Francisco airport. It turned out to be a 'jumbo' 4x4 people carrier, but it was just about perfect. Skied in the likes of Kirkwood, Sierra and Squaw using the reliable bus links.

I'd like to go there again, but all the travel operators I have tried only offer the self-drive option. Google search doesn't come up with any alternative.

Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions. I've already ruled out flying to Reno instead of SF!

Thanks for any assistance.

Sadly not from San Francisco - it seems that no operator does the journey any more. Hire car or bust. However, it is possible to get a coach transfer from Reno airport so may well look at that option (or just go back to Switzerland again where the trains run on time!)

Rent a car in Reno airport, it's a 45 minute drive to the 11 ski resorts! Stay out of SF! My son goes to college there if you really need a ride he or his buddies would help you out!

The offer of a lift is extremely kind!

With regard to car hire, I don't want the burden of a vehicle for the fortnight, so will have to use the coach transfer from Reno (unless it's Swisserland!!)

sweetsooziep, welcome to J2SKI. sweetsooziep post on a certain snowboard forum I use. Her sons are aspiring snowboard racers. sweetsooziep, when the boys are on the world cup circuit, this forum is a great place for info on traveling in Europe

Trencher, I fear you may be in trouble when Admin sees you have been on another site! I once got caught out, and was forced to make a public apology, whip myself with a ski stick, and cross my feet, cos he only had one nail left. -(
