OK, so we've been convinced to go West this year as a change from New Hampshire and Vermont. What's the skiing like in Wyoming ? I've read about Jackson hole and found some nice properties to rent, but what's the skiing going to be like and what other resorts are available to us ?
We are intermediate skiers, but to be honest would welcome long easy runs as a preference.
Any suggestions welcome :)

I've not skied there yet, but Redlodge is on my list of places to retire. I drove through Redlodge town, on the way back from Yellowstone and fell in love with the place. The resort doesn't look huge, but people I've met said the skiing was good and the were no crowds.

I have stayed in Jackson, in the fall, also after Yellowstone Park, part of a Chicago to LA drive. Drove through the Tetons. Impressive country.

Thanks, but I'm looking for information on the ski season around Christmas

Jackson Hole is rather steep. Not a lot of beginner or intermediate runs.

Big Sky up in Montana might be better for your skill level since it is almost all beginner and intermediate runs. Keep an eye on the snow reports. Both resorts can be short on snow around Christmas.

If you have the luxury to travel, Winter Park Colorado or Durango Mountain Colorado will be great. The resorts closest to Denver or Salt Lake City will be the most crowded.

Hope that helps.

I live in UT next door and can safely tell you that at Xmas any resort in the USA is a gamble. The East has snowmaking as 80% of it's snow where the West depends on natural. Jackson is a beautiful place. Stay tuned to the weather reports and make some last minute deals? For good snowmaking in the West you might do better with Aspen/Snowmass or some of the higher resorts in Colorado. Jackson can be hit or miss at that time of year and sits slightly lower than UT/CO resorts at the base
