Hi,
Myself and my girlfriend have 2 days in the alps on the way back from visiing family in italy in the last week april. We are keen to see if we can get a couple of days skiing in though obv picking the right resort is crucial. We were thining switzerland or austria high resorts with glaciers eg engleberg, solden, kaprun, mayrhofen. Anyone got any advie/experience that might be helpful?

cheers,
dan.

I have skied Engelberg up to mid April at most of the runs were open and the snow wasn't bad. If it gets later only the top runs are open and for nearly 60 CHF (£28) I think it isn't such good value and a little bit boring. I don't know when Kaprun shuts down but again I skied there mid April and the runs were still quite good. Hope this helps.

I've visited Zermatt 1/2 april a few years ago.
When we drove to the auto-train it was 19 degrees celcius outside that dampened our spirit quite alot.

But when we arrived in Zermatt the temp had dropped to around 9 degrees at 1600 meters.

Most of the slopes where open, only the ones to the village were closed. It was my first ski holiday and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Later that week the temp shifted and it started snowing in the village.

So I think if you want late april skiing Zermatt will do.
