:(

You know, I actually miss watching people ski like that. It seems like a far more elegant way of doing things.

Its a rare event when I disagree with Trencher! If you look at the body positions, take away the legs together bit, and you are looking at the sofa ski school. When you look closely at the ski bend, you are looking at Trencher's wonderful ski bend picture.

Trencher, this quality of skiing is not the same as the wedel video you put up to make the same comment. This is a world champion demonstrating skiing through any depth of snow, neatly, in control, avec veuve.

To compound the issue, I'm fairly sure Killy is skiing on 210 Kneissl Black Star. They were practically straight, and pretty stiff, and little in the way of modern ski technology. No carvers, rockers or mods........

Superb video, well found, Old(Young)Andy!

I was speaking a little tongue in cheek. I don't disagree with what you are saying Dave, but for me, it just did not look good on everyone.

I can't remember what I was looking for when I stumbled across that vid. There are quite a few others out there.
I won't post them here and fill the screen but Jean Claude Killy search on you tube pulls some up.
I really enjoyed watching Snow's in the House 111 that Adders kindly sent me. History of free skiing in Verbier, some lovely old stuff on there.
Killy is just so beautifully graceful skiing - love it.

Someone once gave me a great bit of advice which was if you're losing control make like you're reading the paper sat on the loo. Your arms go out, your weight goes forward and suddenly you're in control.

I also talk to myself, especially at speed or on a tricky slope. I narrate what the instructor would be telling me to do as I go down. "Up! Plant and Dooooown" etc.

Finally in order to keep my legs together I practice just brushing the material of my ski trousers together.

Everyone's got their own quirks and strategies. It might be worth paying for an hour or two of private tuition. My wife and I try and get an hour in each time we go. You'll learn a new tip each time.

Cheers!

I am glad I am not on my own on that one :D

Not sure about getting an hour or so with the wife to pick up new tips
