Since the last time I was skiing, I have started wearing (varifocal) glasses and it dawned on me that this might be an issue with my current googles and helmet. I have tried on the helmet and that is fine. However, my googles will not accommodate my glasses. Online, it would appear that the solution is either Over the Glasses (OTG) googles or prescription inserts. Which solutions have others found work best?

Hi
I've worn glasses from the age of 5 and I'm 60 so never known skiing without
I've never tried the inserts always going for otg's which are fine but like anything some are better than others so try lots of brands
My wife who's in the same boat as just gone over to contact lens for skiing because of problems with fogging up although I've never had a problem with this so I guess a little bit of experimenting may be needed to see what works best
As a side note just returned from Cervinia and having to wear face masks just adds to the problem but when you love skiing......

I have used over glasses and insets with various degrees of failure. You can get goggles with built in lens rather than clip in which might work. I like skiing in glasses and have used to good effect prescription sun glasses which work well. To use goggles I have this week used contact lens which worked very well.

You could explore using a helmet with a visor. I moved to one of these a few years ago and really like them.

I've always skied with goggles over glasses and found that I just have to try the goggles on first to see if they fit comfortably - they don't necessarily have to be specifically for spectacle-wearers and don't necessarily have to be pricey: some just fit fine, while others don't. If you have photochromic lenses then this can be an issue when you transition suddenly from bright sun to dark shade, so I also have a cheap pair of non-varifocal, non-photochromics that I wear in these conditions (there's often some sort of '2nd pair half price' option when you get new glasses. I also have a pair of very dark Ray-Ban varifocal aviators for when I'm sat outside at altitude for any length of time - they cost a fortune, but feel they're worth it if they help avoid cataracts in later life.

I wrote this review a while back on a Bolle Visor Helmet i have, very good over glasses! Hope it helps...

I really liked the helmet, it was really warm and the adjustable vents made it easy to cool your head down if it got a bit too hot.
The whole visor idea on top of the helmet is exceptional. I only really used the bad light visor when conditions were windy and visibility poor. I found the visor gave a better field of view than a normal pair of goggles and more of your face was covered. Foam over the nose shape and on the underside of the visor ensured draft was minimal. I wore the visor with a buff which covered all my face (bar my eyes obviously!) and not once did the visor steam up. So all in all a fantastic piece of kit and brilliant for anyone who hates having to carry goggles around with them.

You can also use this visor on top of glasses. I did try mine on top of my sunglasses and again no steaming up occurred of either my sunglasses or the visor itself.

That's all folks!

I'm in the same situation this year as I find I'm wearing my varifocals all the time. The visor option seems like the best idea for me I think. Hope I can actually go skiing. Rest of family aren't keen , covid is putting them off.

Contacts, faff in the morning but then job done. No worries about breaking glasses either.
