I'm sure my thoughts mirror with a lot of other Skiers (actually, anyone who wanted to go anywhere and do anything overseas last year / this year..)

So I'm going to look at something positive and look at next season..

So whats your thoughts on booking up stuff for next season?
Finally went off Piste!

Already booked one. I had a booking for this year, but the hotel have kindly allowed us to simply roll it to the same week next season.

Will now be looking for other trips as well, want to get in at least two next season. May split the countries so all eggs are not in the same basket.

I am a realist, and sooner or later we will have to simply open things back up and get on with it. I have been vaccinated, so am happy to take the risk of travelling. And before people start screaming that I am being selfish, you need to also consider the livelihoods of all the people who live and work in ski resorts and the associated industries. I do not believe that we can afford to scrap another season, it is going to take long enough to recover from this anyway. This also applies to the rest of the tourism industry, not just winter sports.

My thoughts anyway.

Roll on 2022 :)

I plan to go, of course.
Will see what extra charges they try.
I would hope everyone realises that it is hard for everyone and the prices dont get silly.
But i reckon a indie holiday..hire local accommodation and drive down.
The other issue is around vax protocols.
Too early for anything atm, but agree that resorts have taken a massive hit and we are just going to have to get on with things. That was always inevitable

Historically, due to our regional Airport, we have had no choice other than to go through Crystal if we want to ski Austria. Crystal have been great with the Covid restrictions. They have allowed bookings for the the 21 season to be moved to the 22 season with a discount of up to 20% of the original booking cost. We moved all ours into 22 Season at fairly good prices. I note looking on the Crystal site now the prices for next season seem to have rocketed, so pleased we got in early.
Just hope all the Covid issues are a thing of the past by next season.
Other downside this season is that I bought new skis, but never got to use them and they will be out of warranty before they even touch snow!
Tell you what though, this has been one really long winter when you have to spend it all in the damp/cold UK.

That is how we have been doing it for several years. We far prefer the flexibility of travel and gear we can take. Most hotels are happy to take a direct booking even when their websites say fully booked and we have found it far easier to get single rooms when required without being ripped off by the TO.

You guys are lucky, wish we could consider driving.
For us here 'up North' it's a 7+ hour drive to Dover before we even start!
So in essence a return trip to Austria would involve 4 days travel.
Still, we do have the wonderful Northumberland Coast and Countryside experience all year round :-)

DougR, have you considered an overnight ferry from Hull? Shortens the driving somewhat, and just straight across Holland and Germany to Austria if you got to Rotterdam.

Not sure of the costs, but I think DaveD uses Hull for his crossings, perhaps he can advise.

Hmmmm, could be an idea. I did try pricing to go from North Shields to Amsterdam but by the time I gave them an arm and a leg I would struggle to ski.
All booked up for next season, but could be worth considering for 23 season.
Cheers.
