Daved: I wonder what insurers' attitudes will be if your trip is to a country not included in a UK "travel corridor", ie, one where the government website states you should not travel "unless absolutely necessary". As far as I can tell from the FCO website at the moment, France, Austria and Italy are not included in the "exempt" list, hence we are officially advised not to go there. Would insurers cough up in such circumstances I wonder ?

Good luck, hope it's purely hypothetical anyway Daved.

My insurer, Staysure, offers an additional option which covers even if the FCO advise against all but essential travel. You pay a bit more and there are some complicated exclusions, all Covid related. Haven't tried to understand it yet as we booked in Feb to travel in January, so will wait a bit longer to see how things go before cancelling. Austria cases are going up just like everywhere in Europe
