living in the North East can be great, but the North/South divide just got worse. Destinations from Newcastle Airport were always limited. We could get to France with Jet2 or EasyJet, but now EasyJet have pulled out of Newcastle it has just about rendered the Airport redundant. EasyJet were the main carrier from Newcastle, not just for French ski resorts reachable from Geneva, but also most of the popular summer sun destinations. Jet2 still fly, but will no doubt milk their monopoly from Newcastle.
The only way we could get to Austrian resorts was with Crystal Ski and they loaded prices from Newcastle accordingly as they had no competition. Last year Lufthansa advertised direct flights from Newcastle to Munich, 6 days per week. Great, popular Austrian resorts are within easy reach of Munich. I booked several flights for the coming season, but now I notice Lufthansa are no longer offering direct flights and instead they now go via Dusseldorf. Lufthansa have failed to tell me this and will not respond to my questions at all. Their Customer Service makes Ryanair and EasyJet look fantastic by comparison.
So all in all yet another destination lost from Newcastle. Crystal Ski is really now the only option for Austrian resorts from Newcastle. Either that or we have to travel to Manchester or Glasgow which adds considerably to time and cost.
All this on top of whatever restrictions Covid will impose on the coming ski season are not filling me with joy at this point.
Anyway, anybody booking Lufthansa flights from Newcastle, be very careful as once they have your money they will not respond to any queries regarding refund for flights that they have cancelled, but not even bothered to inform the customer.

I think flights are going to be a problem. I have booked a holiday that had to be changed I Agreed to the change but did not realise you had to get your own flights. You would have thought no problems if I go to London . Unfortunately only very early return flights but not possible to get to airport in time using provided and paid for transfers. On top of that if holiday cancelled should get refund for holiday but no refund for flights. It's looking more and more difficult to get away. Let's hope the situation gets better for everyone. In conclusion if it's so difficult from London it must be almost impossible from elsewhere.
