All,

Heading to Alta Badia mid March and getting concerned about the lack of fresh snow. Has anyone been to the region lately and what are the conditions?

Hello,
the slopes will be fine, even if it hasn't really snowed since December. I am also going to be in that area in a couple of weeks (Val Gardena) and am a tad worry that it's unseasonably warm and it has been since early Jan!! :(
All the runs will be open, I am just hoping they don't get too choppy in the afternoon.
Who knows, fingers crossed and we'll get a couple of Winter days in March....... :)

Hi @zuma. I'm heading there next week so will let you know :-) It looks like there is some snow forecast end of week but it's a bit dependent on the temperature staying low enough to fall as snow not rain. I really dont fancy skiing in rain. Fingers crossed.

I am just back from Val Gardena. Yes, it is a long time since they have had a large dump but they do have a good base and are experts at managing the snow. Conditions at the moment on piste are wonderful with a nice packed piste condition - perfect for high speed cruising. We had an absolutely wonderful week in glorious sunshine.

Temperatures were close to zero so snow holding up very well. Some south-facing pistes can get a bit slushy as the day progresses but generally not too bad and there can be the odd patch of ice but again, this was pretty rare.

Perhaps a bigger concern at the moment is the Coronavirus. We travelled by car back to Munich airport yesterday. Only a few hours after we had passed, a train was stopped at the Brenner Pass and Austria is now talking about introduction of border controls. Depending on how things evolve over the next week or two, travel could become much more fraught.

Great to hear the snow is holding out. There is some more foreacst this weekend too. Not so good re Corona virus. I'm heading to Venice airport later this week and wondering if they they will close it...

Went March 2020 and had 3 glorious days of near empty runs, warm sunshine, powdery snow. Completed one loop. Bliss…. Then ….corona. Pause.

Going back late feb to finish the job fingers crossed.

Highly recommended in March
