Hi and welcome to the group.

I'm a huge fan of Arc'teryx, my current jacket is the Fissile, which is insulated and made of gore-tex, but not cheap, I can't remember how much I paid, but I'd expect the equivalent now is £600, which might rule it out.

Now is a pretty good time to buy, there are still some good bargains to be found, snow and rock and ellis Brigham have some good stock available, if you're prepared to look beyond the colour. The other 2 brands I particularly like are Norrona and Mammut, again, both are fairly expensive, but if you register on Norrona.com, you get access to the outlet, which is a great source of highly reduced gear.

Some good sources that I've found during my hours of looking, facewest.co.uk, trekitt.co.uk and if you don't mind buying from Germany, exxposed.co.uk (note that it does have double x).

The last suggestion is sportpursuit.com, they get all sorts of cheap, branded clothing and equipment, usually samples or last season, but, they can be very limited on sizes. In a similar vain is privatesportshop.co.uk, but I only came across this place recently, so don't know much about them.

Hope this all helps, if you have any specific questions, let me know.

Given the lack of versatility I would always question buying an insulated jacket. Good hard shell can be worn throughout the year or even casually if that is your thing. As for brands if you jump for an insulated jacket most likely will be worn few times of year only and hence quality is probably is not a big factor. Just go for one that fits wells and you like the color.

I would suggest layering up and getting a hard shell. It gives you a bit more flexibility

Just go to Tk Maxx before the winter season, and you can chose the one you like for a reasonable price

Hi There,
I bought my Jacket from North Face retail outlet at resirts world Birmingham.
Should of been £800 jacket got it for £ 240. Best time to get jackets is around september (now).
I have found plenty of good affordable bargains at the retail outlets with some items more than 50% off, so i would say just shop around.
