Anyone stayed and skied in & around Marmolada?
We are one intermediate skier and one non skier/walker.
Just after an idea of pros and cons of that area, possibly late Feb/early March visit.

I haven't actually stayed near Marmolada but have skied over to it. I don't recall much by way of villages near the glacier. You might be better off in a larger town such as Selva, especially with a non-skier. The Alpe de Suisi area might be particularly suitable as I think there is really nice walks in that area and the skiing is great for intermediates.

Hi Marmolada is a great mountain with one of the longest single runs around but I wouldn't say it is ideal for intermediate especially skiing by yourself and from what I saw not much for non skiers. To be honest in the Dolomites for all round intermediate and non-skiing (including some really good walks) you can't really beat Madonna Di Campiglio. Nice town, not too many English! and good snow cover. If you go try Pinzolo too now linked directly by gondola to Madonna. Cheers

On my way to Madonna next week & usually go to Austria. First time there, so will have to see what conditions are like. Looks like I might be missing out though as Austria has had a huge amount of snow. Due to altitude of Madonna I am guessing it can be hit & miss, possibly better off going slightly later in the season i.e around February??

On top of Marmolada is a fascinating WW1 museum. The red run down is lovely, depending on the weather/conditions of course.
If you want to be not too far from Marmolada then Alleghe is a nice little village by the lake to have a base, good decent skiarea itself (Civetta ski) and there's a ski bus connection to Malga Ciapela (Marmolada cable car).
