Colorado Ski Area Opening This Weekend

J2SkiNews posted Oct-2018

Following speculation that some of Colorado's highest ski areas might open this weekend as heavy snowfall hits the famous ski state, Wolf Creek has announced it will be opening weekends from Saturday 13th October.

The resort, which has had 60cm of snowfall so far, says it will have three lifts operating from 9am to 4pm on Saturdays and Sundays through October up to its previously planned opening date of 2nd November.

Snowmaking has been underway, on and off, since late September at a number of resorts including Arapahoe Basin, one of the world's highest resorts, and Copper Mountain (scheduled to open in early November) and Loveland have also been making snow.

Loveland (pictured above yesterday) says that it expects up to 60cm of snow to fall by the end of Sunday, although it has not said it plans to open.
A spokesman for Arapahoe Basin commented, "It's quite the snow globe at The Legend today! The snowmaking guns have been going strong all day, and Mother Nature's sending the fluffy stuff. Still no opening date. When we know, you'll know."

Heavy snow is being reported/forecast across western North America with many areas in Utah reporting at least 30cm accumulations too, some receiving as much as 65cm.

Last winter, one of the warmest and driest on record in Colorado, Arapahoe Basin was the only area to open in November.
