Accommodation question

Hi all
We are seeking a hotel/B&B which allows booking for 9 nights in Ischgl or Cervinia or Val Thorens in the mid-February 2019 ski season. We are 2 adults just looking for one double room near the slopes.
All the hotels we select with inquiry online only allow bookings from Saturday to Saturday, and do not respond to emails when asking for a 9 night.
We have even tried to search for those hotels who advertise midweek breaks r weekend offers so we can book a 7 night plus a weekend offer to extend our stay but no luck.
Does anyone have any ideas or advice for us?

You've set yourself quite a challenge; three of the most popular ski resorts in Europe, in the busiest weeks of the season. It's very unlikely that any hotels will take bookings for less than a week just yet; they're very likely to be fully-booked for that period and you're effectively offering them 9-nights rent when they could get 14-nights rent for the same room and time.

You may get lucky if you can wait until last-minute, in the hope of cancellations; hotels will be more flexible nearer the time, but that's a big gamble.

Can you pick a different time to ski?

Otherwise, look at smaller ski stations and satellite villages that are not so popular with families and Tour Operators.

Either way, you'll find the mountains and villages a lot less crowded, save some money and probably enjoy your skiing more; most hotels are flexible any time they're unlikely to be full.

Thanks so much, yes this is as we expected as hotels need to maximize their bookings! However we are traveling all the way from South Africa and 1 week skiing is just too short for the cost of getting there. Will take your advice and look at alternatives.

Our past 2 trips, we found a lovely garni in Livigno who allowed a 9 night stay, now looking for a change.

Try Lech/Zurs on Booking.com. There are currently vacancies in mid Feb for 9/10 nights (e.g 9 - 19 Feb) but they are likely to go quickly...

I would get in touch with the resort tourist offices, tell them where your coming from, why you want to stay for 9 nights and see what they come up with. Try and chose a resort with lots of hotels as there will be more competition, Val Thorens only has 12 hotels so they can afford to be choosey.

One option would be to book for 7 nights (Sat - Sat) in resort and then stay 1 night on the way to resort on Friday, somewhere close enough to give you a full days skiing on the Saturday, and on way back on the Saturday - allowing you to ski a full day on the Saturday. This would give you 8 full days skiing on your trip.

Once you are away from the resorts, you should not have too much difficulty getting accommodation for single nights. We did this a few years ago for a trip to Val Thoren (one-way) where we skied all day on the Saturday and then drove as far as Chambery (a lovely town) where we got a nice room at a reasonable price before picking up our flight home from Lyon the next day.

Unfortunately, you probably need to hire a car to make this work.

I would suggest searching via booking.com & be prepared to have a 2 resort stay. Great fun!

A couple of years back I flew into Innsbruck, hired a car and stayed a few days in Westendorf Austria, ski in/out & then had a few days in Auchensee where we had to use the car to ski.

If you do choose Ischgl you can fly into Innsbruck & you're in the mountains with heaps of other ski resorts to spend a few days at. And in February the lower resorts should have plenty of snow. You could actually stay in Innsbruck as it's close enough to the slopes.

If you choose Cervinia, you could have a week there & then stay for a few days down the valley in Aosta ( where you ought to be able to get accomadation) & get the cable car up to the gorgeous resort of Pila.

Have you tied any of the on line booking sites?
Had a quick look for Cervinia and they seem to allow longer booking on booking.com
