Big traffic jams are reported to have built up today on the roads to Scotland's ski centres as skiers and boarders attempted to rake advantage of superb conditions.
Scottish centres have seen almost a month of consistently sub zero temperatures and the stormy weather that often plagues resort operations appears to have impacted to the south instead so far this winter.
Heavy snow this week has brought several feet of snowfall to Scottish slopes, particularly in the Western Highlands, with the result that conditions this weekend have been amongst the best for several years with fresh snow, blue skies and very little wind.
There were, however, huge queues as thousands of skiers and boarders attempted to reach the five ski centres, filling car parks and creating tailbacks up to six miles long.
Police warned motorists who abandoned their cars on access roads and walked to the lifts that they were causing access problems for gritters and other essential services and that their cars could be seized.
They advised skiers and boarders who had not found parking to turn round and head back.
Nevis Range announced they were at capacity and would not sell any more tickets in the morning.
Glencoe issued a statement at the end of the day:
"Thanks for your patience with the Access Road this morning. Unfortunately despite having staff working all night we struggled to stay on top of the fresh snowfall. For those that made it up the mountain we hope you had a good day."
